Hi, I apologize if this question has already been answered recently, but I was wondering if anyone could help me compile a list of common/important topics to be knowledgeable about prior to going into interview season? The most common example I can think of would be the state of healthcare in the US in general, but what other topics should I at least be familiar with going into an interview? Thanks!

Some topics I have seen to be familiar with for interviews based off of websites/forums:
  • Affordable Care Act
  • Medicare for All/ Single Payer
  • Structure of Canadian or British system compared to US
  • Opioid Crisis
  • Barriers to healthcare access
  • Drug Prices

You don't have to be able to give a dissertation on any of these topics though. Just be able to discuss some pros and cons of each. Don't overdo it.

Keep in mind a few focused topics:

Role/responsibilities of a physician in the health care team
Role/responsibilities of a physician in the direction of health care (policy)

Definitely be able to give your opinions on how you see your future role as a physician contributing to these things, not just political opinions, but how you specifically might contribute.
