What are some good questions to ask programs when they get to the point of the interview when they say "so, do you have any questions for us?" I'm always really bad at that and end up asking generic questions. I'm coming on a couple of audition rotations and would like to sound like I have something interesting to say when I talk to the program director. can anyone help please?

Why don't you do us all a favor: since the most common questions on this forum seem to be "what are the top 10 programs and what are my chances of getting into one?" why don't you ask them that? That way at least you'll probably be asking a residency program director who has the requisite experience to actually appropriately address the question, rather than a bunch of med students who can only give you their opinions formed from second, third or fourth-hand rumor. 😉

On a more serious note, you don't have to have a million detailed questions. One or two things that you may have wondered about during researching the program would be fine. You can even ask the faculty the same questions you'd ask any residents you'd talk to --just to see how the opinions differed between faculty and residents. I'd suggest always asking about stability of faculty or anticipated faculty turnover; what looks like a great program can change a lot if they lose a few key people, especially in smaller programs.
