Interview Rejections

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got a rejection from a backup program. I applied to a couple of IM programs and got my first rejection from UT Southwestern in Dallas. I hope to not see any more of those anytime soon.

Does the Allegheny rejection still suck? Is it the one that says that people invited for interview that didn't originally qualify don't change their luck - essentially, saying the interview means nothing, since if you get one and don't deserve it, there is NO way your interview will change your rank status?

Sorry to hear about the rejection... 🙁 but it's early yet.........I'm sure interviews will be coming your way.... I dont' think we have even started offering yet... 🙂

Don't worry - its just a rejection. There will be interview offers rolling in soon.

Now that would really suck! There rejection letter is listed below,

Thank you for completing your application to the Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Allegheny General Hospital. Our staff reviewed your application and applied the specific criteria that we use for granting interviews. We are sorry that we will not be able to grant you an interview. We review about 500 applications per year. Experience shows that if the inital criteria for our review process is not met, the applicant is inconvenienced by an interview trip.

We wish you success in your pursuit of residency training in Emergency Medicine.

Sincerely,
Allegheny General Hosital
Emergency Medicine Residency Program

Pretty smooth! It essentially says "we're really almost never wrong; if we invite people we don't love on paper, we somehow never seem to love them in person."

You know, I think I like that honesty. I could have avoided a lot of brief and tragic love affairs thanks to that sort of thinking.

Yeah, that's it - in other words, "the interview doesn't mean anything" - so, why bother to interview at all?

What they're really trying to say is that your application sucks SOOOO bad on paper that no matter how cool you are in person, they'll still hate you....
