Hi everyone, I just applied to PGY-1/CA-1 positions for anesthesiology for 2009. I will be a US allopathic graduate. I applied to about 30 programs and have a heard from a few but have not heard from a few school that are already giving out interviews. My board scores are in the mid 220s, good grades, research/publications and excellent letters. Does not hearing from the others schools mean that I am out of contention there or will I hear from them later during their 2nd or 3rd wave of interviews? I really appreciate your help with this matter. I am bit nervous...thanks.

It's only 9/26 bro...there was literally a thread identical to yours posted yesterday.

Hi guys - This is my first post on this site.
I feel for you anesthesiaguy because I too thought I was in pretty good shape before applying, and I was told by my dean that I was in pretty good shape. Sure my Step 1 was not awesome - it was national average, but I had a pretty good score on Step 2, some research, did pretty well in my class (good class rank), and have two good anesthesia LORs. So, I was surprised too to not be receiving many interviews.
It seems pretty early though right now and I was looking over the interview thread from last year and it seemed that a lot of people got the majority of their interviews in October - even schools that sent out interviews at an earlier date. So let's just hang in there and hope for the best! Good luck to you and everyone else!

Yeah, the interview thread is fun for those that have interview offers but it definately causes some hysteria/panic for those still waiting. The offers really come in October; the thread could almost wait until Oct. and then post who you have offers from.

Amyl is right: a lot of the interviews come in October (and even November!). More than half of my interviews came in late October/early November (and later interviews tended to be at the better programs).

Don't worry if other people are getting interviews at places you haven't heard back from - a PD at a good place told me last year (in late September) that it's just a matter sifting through all the appications. There are clear choices that get interviews right away, then people whose applications they need to review more closely first.

I think (in general) that getting a later interview invitation doesn't affect your chances of getting ranked favorably by a program - it just makes these few months more stressful.

We all freaked out too and know that no amount of consoling will prevent you from doing the same. Just know that it will work out well in the end and the great majority of you will likely be pretty happy on Match Day.

Thanks alot for your replies guys. It really helps knowing that it's not just me who is going through this. Goodluck to everyone out there. I am sure we'll be fine. I hope you guys are right about the october and the early november interviews. It's right around the corner. Once again, thank you and goodluck.

look at the interview invite thread from last year and you can see exactly when programs sent out invites.

chill.

Programs are all on different time lines for offering interviews. Some of them are really quick to get the first round of interview offers sent out. Some programs, like mine. Are still sorting through applications and haven't sent out any invites yet.

At this point if you haven't gotten anything from a program, it doesn't mean anything. Keep waiting, don't count anything out yet.

If we have this same thread revisited in December, different story.
