Baylor Switch needed, please!
I have 12/16 and need to switch to 1/13. Thanks.
I have Cleveland Clinic 1/13 and would like to switch to 1/20 or 1/27 so I can attend a family event. Please help me out if you can switch! PM me if you can! It would really mean a lot.
Thanks.
I will also be willing to pay for your flight if you switch with me. I really need it, thanks.
So still need to switch. Would take either 1/14 or 1/7 but prefer 1/14.UCLA: have 12/13, need 1/14. Thanks!

I also have South Carolina on 12/6 and need to switch to 1/9!
I will pay for flight, change fees, and accommodations if I can find a taker!!
Please forgive me if this sounds disrespectful, but would those that "NEED" a switch maybe want to say why they need it more than any other applicant? Or for those that "don't have many interviews" maybe want to say how many they have?
I have 4 invites, which to me isn't many and certainly far from the magic number, even though my stats are pretty solid compared to those who matched in the past. But it just seems like those who claim to be desperate while trying to trade dates of stellar programs to fit in more big institutions will do just fine. Likewise, if someone had to cancel several times, it implies that that person had plenty to begin with. Don't get me wrong, it sucks that several programs recognize your hard work and you can't accommodate them all, but isn't that part of the match? Or perhaps I'm wrong and you were just unlucky enough to have only 4 invites and 3 were on the same day, in which case I'm sorry for this post.
I don't mean to discourage using this thread at all - I'm sure I'll need it. I've reached out to a couple people wanting a trade even though I had nothing to gain. I guess it's just tough to see those of you in a great position to match trying to acquire as many interviews as possible while others are truly holding on by a thread. Then again I'm just jealous of all you superstar applicants lol. Sorry for the rant, let's hope we all make it!
Please, Please, Please.... If anyone can switch with me for the South Carolina dates! I have already canceled 3 interviews because of date conflicts and I don't have many to begin with! =o(

And I'm sure the vast majority of people agree with you 🙂. This happens every year and program coordinators know this, as long you cancel with enough notice it's really not a big deal. It's just the normal way the process works.Hmm. There's no way to accurately predict exactly when a program is going to offer interview dates. Neither is it really possible to accurately predict how many/which interviews you are going to receive (ok, unless you have a 300 on Step 1 and 10 first author pubs in Nature). So I think it might not be the best decision to hold out accepting any offers until the programs you're hoping for send out invitations. If all programs sent out invites on the same day, I'd agree wholeheartedly. As it is, I respectfully disagree.
There's nothing in that link you've included that suggests that a program would punish you for cancelling with appropriate notice (seems like they're giving a two week minimum there, which is actually even cutting it a bit close if the next applicant who gets an offer needs to buy a flight). I'm not saying a PC is thrilled with a cancellation, just like applicants aren't thrilled with rejections or waitlists, but it happens. I do think it's common courtesy to cancel as soon as you know you can't go, and making money off of offering your interview date seems highly questionable, but otherwise, I think it's all fair game.I suppose people have different opinions on this matter. What's ok with one applicant/program may not be ok with another. Anecdotally, I have heard a PC express displeasure at an applicant cancelling, so I don't think it's fair to assume that programs are universally ok with applicants stacking invites.
While not rad-onc, I found these comments from a PD interesting when doing a google search on the topic: http://urologymatch.yuku.com/forum/viewtopic/id/364
Different programs are clearly going to be bothered by different things when it comes to cancelling interviews. Not intentionally double booking avoids the problem of having to swap or cancel.
Also, imagine showing up to your interview and when they ask you about your other interviews being able to say "well, I got a late offer to interview at <top program>, but it was the same date as this one and I really wanted to talk to you guys."
What I find disrespectful is accepting an interview on a certain date then later accepting another interview on the same date. You have explicitly expressed your intention to interview, and the ethical thing to do is to honor your commitments, not try to hoard as many interviews as possible and then attempt to switch them or even sell them (apparently).
Cancelling an interview you've committed to in order to attend a different one is disrespectful to the program coordinator, who has gone through effort to invite and schedule you (and will have to go through further effort to fill your slot), and the faculty members who selected your application from hundreds.
It's also disrespectful to the other person who eventually ends up interviewing in your spot and has less time to make plans for the interview. Personally, no matter how much I wanted to attend another interview that was offered, I would never back down from a previous commitment (although I'm not lucky/unlucky enough to be in this predicament). Whether or not it's done all the time doesn't matter, to me it just seems dishonest.

Are you serious?
We'll get over it.
You should cancel with good notice--that much is common courtesy. Cancellations do happen all the time, however. It's understandable. Residency training is a very important matter, and if you receive an opportunity with a program you're more interested in, I'd rather you be happy at that other program than come to mine and wish you were at that other program or wonder what might have been.
The PC will get over it. Nobody is going to blacklist you in the future. Nobody remembers who you are. You think we care that much or our memories are that good? Nope.
When the programs stop offering all their interview dates on the same dates, they'll stop having trouble with double booking.
I think a lot of people would find that rather arrogant. First, a lot of people are very proud of their home program and will rank it very differently than might be the conventional wisdom on SDN. Second, we understand that people have choices of where to interview, and often have to make decisions. I don't think we would rank someone higher than someone else because of who else they turned down to interview here.
