Hi everyone,

I thought it would be really helpful for all of us to collaborate on the interview process. In particular, I am confused as to if one should bring copies of resume, transcripts, etc. to an interview in a sort of "portfolio" or if schools don't usually ask you for them at interviews bc they are on file.

This would be a good forum for applicants to post common interview questions (suits, traveling, questions, etc.) while current Pod students could provide feedback to us.

You dont need to bring anything to the interview. The interview process is really laid back and not stressful at all. Everyone is really nice and friendly. I spent around $800 to travel to Cali for my interview from the east coast 🙁 At CSPM, we toured the school first then had our interview at the end, which i prefer, because I was able to learn more about the school and say why I wanted to go there.

People go about preparing for interviews differently based on what will help them feel the most prepared. The majority of Undergrad schools have a pre-professional offices which offers mock interviews. I highly recommended doing one so you can see what you need to improve on.

At my interviews I had a professional folder with paper, my application (printed from aacpm) and some general questions for the interviewer. This gives me a place to put handouts, write pros and cons, and take notes.

Pro-tip: Always ask your interviewer(s) a couple of more insightful questions. Refrain from asking questions you can find out from current students or a quick Google search (residencies, stats, classes, etc). My favorite question that stumped a few of my interviewers for a moment: "If you can change one thing at your school, what will it be?" It's versatile, thought-provoking, and shows you actually value the school as much as they value you.

Here is some advice for interview:

1. You should bring a resume, you may not use it but it is a good way to review your what things you have done while you are waiting for the interview to begin. If you did research and present a poster session or have a paper published, then bring the paper or a copy of the poster printed on regular sized paper.

2. Look at some of the questions you will be asked and formulate a short and to the point answer. You will get asked why podiatry? What have you seen/heard about Pod. Tell us about your shadowing experience, etc etc. What I did was write out a 4 sentence length response on paper beforehand and used that to polish my answers. You will be surprised at how blank your mind can get when you feel "put on the spot" during an interview. Blabbering or a long winded answer will not impress the interviewer.

I do believe that he makes a great point. You do not NEED a resume with you, but it would be smart to bring one with you. I assume you'll be waiting some time between the tour and the interview (assuming the tour is first then the interview)

I do hope that more people for this year do use the interview portion on this site for DPM schools. It seems as if there are dozens upon dozens of DPM students interviewing per year from this site yet there are only 2 to 3 for each school that are actually posting how their interview went.
I do plan on interviewing at schools in the next couple months and I do plan on spending some time helping out students on this site

I think it would be a good idea to bring those things with you. I highly doubt they will ask for them (I was never asked for them) but it shows that you are prepared and you really want the spot. 👍

Could not agree more, everyones mind is racing and all they are thinking is just end this and get me in, google can answer everything else. Here are some suggestions
What are you looking for in an ideal candidate
Are there any changes to the school/program in the works
What do you feel is strongest about this school
What is your area of research/specialty
If you are a non traditional student ask how other students like you have fared
Have any students worked with you on any projects or studies

As for having a resume, have it. At any time in your professional life you should always have them on interviewers or be able to produce one in minute i.e. make sure it is fully updated.
