interview thank you notes - email?

Sooo I just had an interview on Thursday. I wanted to snail mail Thank You notes to my interviewers... but I am not sure that they will be able to get there by Wednesday, when the committee meets to make a decision. And for obvious reasons, I suppose it would be in my best interest to get the Thank Yous in prior to that.
Would it be a bad idea to email my interviewers with a thank you? Or is this too informal?
