hi, I tried browsing the psych thread but was not able to find the times people actually schedule the interviews for. I found when they were offered them. I am trying to set up my schedule to be condusive to interviews, when does the interview season begin and end. And when do the California programs usually schedule their interviews for?

Thanks

The season usually begins in October and runs through February, with most interviews happening from Sept through Jan if I'm not mistaken.

Figure at most 3 interviews per week to avoid burnout. I limited it to 2 per week. One time I had to fly from one coast to another in the same week and I was very tired - from Stanford to Longwood. Whew.

My first interview was early October at one of the UCLA programs. It rocked !

Most programs do not put this information on their web sites until the fall. If you want this information now, or at least a rough approximation, then your best bet is to call the program coordinators directly and ask them what their interview dates were like last year.

I tried to schedule as many as possible for Mondays. This put my interview dinners on Sunday and meant I had less absences from rotations.

I also tried to cluster programs in nearby locations close together. At the same time, don't wait to schedule interviews, especially at places you're SUPER excited about. Places further down your interest list you can drag out a bit further.

Always cancel with at least a weeks notice, and tell the truth. My program was just laughing today about how many people's grandmothers die during interview season, hahaha.

The first day to submit apps is a few weeks later than previous Matches -- 9/15...is it possible that interviews could start a bit later than before?

I've been looking at programs' websites, and it seems like almost every place schedules their interviews on Mondays and Fridays, which seems like it would limit most of us to two interviews per week. Am I missing something? I'm an IMG and I only have two months for all of my interviews (including December, which will be cut short by the Christmas/New Year's week), so I was hoping that I could knock out at least 3-4 per week, since they say that IMGs need to do at least 20-30 total interviews.

This is possibly the majority, but alot of programs do interview on other days. I interviewed over two weeks, starting on a Thursday, then a Friday, then the next monday, thursday, friday, and again the following monday. I was supposed to interview the tuesday as well, but I got into a train accident so I had to cancel.

So, two months should really be enough. Doing 20 - 30 interviews is absurd unless you murdered someone during medial school.

Yeah, I guess psych is a bit different from IM... but I just want to be safe, since IMG matching can be so uncertain...

And they can't access my criminal records if I'm in a different country, right? 😀
(in case a program director sees that last statement, I feel the need to clarify the fact that it was a joke...)
