Hi folks!

I'm currently scheduling my 4th year and I am allowed to take one month off , either December or January for interviews. I was planning on taking December off to do interviews then a "not so stressfull" January rotation for last minute interviews that may come up. I was told by some folks December is too early to take off for interviews. Is this true? When did most people schedule/have their interviews?

Thanks!

i would reverse that...take an easy elective in dec and take off jan..most programs don't interview between 12/22 and 1/2 so you are stuck with just 3 weeks if that in dec...and 3 weeks of pre holiday fares for flights (after 12/16 this year the fares went UP significantly!) if you have to fly a lot (like i did) try to schedule most in jan and take an easy dec elective that will let you miss few days if you need to do a few in dec. it is crazy trying to schdule all of your interviews and getting hotels/flights/cars etc so give your self some extra time since you probably won't have all of your interview invitations until the second week in nov or later. just my humble advice 😀

Agreed. In terms of interviewing, January is a longer month than December. You'll have an extra week to do the same number of interviews which will be good for your sanity. Just make sure that you schedule a December rotation that will give you Christmas off, ie. outpt anything, a consult service, etc, and not a sub-I. Also, you might find that the rotations that will give you Christmas off will also let you get away occasionally to interview (you could do this in November, as well).
