How safe is it to travel around alone as a female to school interviews?
Especially to unfamiliar areas?
I plan to travel to Memphis (SCO) & Philly (PCO) alone,
but people have warned me that it's too dangerous to be
traveling in those cities by myself.
Anyone have personal experiences/input on traveling to these cities?

PCO is located in the nice part of Philly and close to a police station, so the safety in the immediate surrounding of the school is good. If you are taking public transportation, I'd recommend use the SEPTA and exit at Jenkintown train station. I walked from the Jenkintown train station to the school for my interview and it was a good relaxing walk (the distance is about a mile). If you have your own transportation, you can park in the school's parking lot and it should be less than 5 min walk from anywhere in the parking lot to the admission's office.

just be careful, no matter where you go, just be smart and you will be fine. when are you going to SCO? my interview is on october 15

You'll be fine in Memphis. Just don't stay at a sketchy hotel or walk around by yourself at night... it's not really an issue.

For SCO, a good place to stay is:

Holiday Inn Express
1180 Union Ave.
Memphis, TN 38104

It is right next door to the school. You can just walk to the interview. I am pretty sure they will give you a discount if you tell them that you are there for an SCO interview.

Dido! I went to the interview alone and didn't have a problem AT ALL in Memphis. I stayed with a friend at University of Memphis, while is kind of a drive away from SCO, but parking and walking wasn't an issue. Good luck to the 10/15 kids! =)

I believe they suggest a list in the interview email packet. If you didn't receive it, just call. They're suuuper nice and would give all the recommendations.

I stayed there when I went to visit this summer and it was nice to be that close to the school. There are definitely some sketchy parts of Memphis, but if you stick to the area around the school you should be fine.
