So today I arrived in town for my first cross country interview, which is scheudled for tomorrow. Apparently, my father, who scheduled my plane ticket, could not find a flight that leaves the same day after my interview, which ends tomorrow at four. So my plane leaves Wed. morning, and I get back Wed. afternoon. I am missing a whopping three days of class! And this is how it is for the majority of all my other cross country interviews. Is this how it is for those of you that are flying cross country? Or are you flying in and leaving on the day of your interview? Is there something Im doing wrong?

I flew out for two east coast interviews last week (I'm on the west coast) and missed a week of school. I flew in the day before one of my interviews and the day after my second one. It sucks, but the prof's were all accommodating and seemed to understand. I would be nervous scheduling a flight to arrive the day of the interview because of the possibility of it getting delayed/canceled.

I've missed quite a bit of class, especially Thursdays and Fridays. I have literally missed 1/2 of my Histology class because of interviews. Other classes haven't been as bad though.

October has 23 days of class, and I probably missed 8 of them, lol. Professors have been really cool about it, and I still have A's so all's good.

A lot. I have been missing different days, so it is not that bad. Thankfully my classes are scheduled such that I can kind of miss a few...

I've missed many classes. I still have As, but a few of them are slipping....

i had a week where i missed 3 (of my 4) days of class due to back-to-back interviews. next week i'm missing 2 days of class. it helps that my classes end early afternoon and that i don't have class on fridays. total days missed so far = 7.

all in all, it's not too awful, except when i miss my once a week labs. (my grades are taking a small hit though because i don't have as much time to study/catch up on materials.)

My grades are taking a hit, but that is because I don't care anymore...🙄

lol - in a way, i don't care anymore either. i don't feel that bad when i don't study as much. i just want to be done.

thankfully all of my interviews have been/are on Mondays or Fridays. So I have only missed one day of class per interview because I schedule either the arriving or departing flight during the weekend. However, Im in a situation where my school is extremely strict on days absent. My professors have all been cool about it, but the policy at my school only allows for a limited number of absent days before being dropped from the class. I did sort of get a sanction for my interviews but it was a hassle.

Just get that first acceptance and then nit-pick the rest of your interviews.

yeah i feel you....i have a class that only meets once a week for 3 hrs and ive already missed it 3 times, this will be the 4th 😳

and then i have a lab that everytime i miss its an unexcused absense...i also work in the lab for credit and have done absolutely NOTHING. i feel terrible, but its really out of my hands

The best thing to do in this situation is to try and schedule interviews back to back.

For instance, one school offered an interview on Nov 23, but I asked for Nov 5 instead, because I have one on Nov. 6, so they happened to have an open spot and this way I don't have to waste the day before by getting there.

You should also schedule flights to leave promptly after your interview if it's mid-week.

Also for Friday interviews, I leave after class on Thursdays, so I don't miss my Thursday classes, it's generally okay to get into a city late.

id say in my MWF classes, ive missed about 8 days...and t/th ive probably missed 6 or 7..so probably like 20-40% of the total classes.

Ive done my best trying to miss as little class as possible. Luckily, on the cross country trips I have managed to get them done within two days (never had to stretch out over 3). You just have to be willing to arrive really late and not get as much sleep. In the end, its not really that big of a deal. You can always just get notes from someone else.

I will say this: P.Chem is killing me. It's hard to decipher other people's notes since I'm not there to take my own. Dang chicken-scratch!
Ha ha. Me too! What was I thinking taking P chem during my interviewing semester!?! I'm totally getting worked in school. I've missed 55% of school days this semester cause I fly across the country basically every week. Great problem to have, but still.....

Oh my goodness, I would not want to be in your shoes. I took Pchem I and II last year... two of the worst semesters of my life. I don't know how you're managing when you're missing so much class! Good luck with it! :luck:

Anyway, I managed to schedule my classes this semester so that they are all in the morning. The day before my interviews, I go to my morning classes, and then hurry to the airport to catch my flight. I miss class the next day while I'm at my interview, then fly back to school that day. It's been working really well, and I've only been missing one day of class per interview.

yea, if i could do this i would. but im not concered about missing notes...its that my professors are have class participation as a part of the grade, and missed class goes against you...

lol i dont go to classes where participation is not a factor

Yea, a lot of my classes are the same way...for example my african american religious studies course. participation is like 15% of that grade. I always make sure that I give him at least a week notice that I will be missing class, and he knows why I am missing. He basically said that if I participate in the classes that I am there and I do well on tests and assignemnts and essays, the days that I miss out on participation won't matter. Which is totally true.

4 interviews out of state, missed 2 days of school for each = 8 days
3 interviews in state, missed 1 day for 2, and 2 for 1, = 4 days

Total, missed 12 days of school.

Have had only 25 days of school so far (quarter system).

So yea missed 12/25 days! About 50%!

Plus missed one of my mandatory classes like 5 times, missed 3 quizzes, missed mandatory sections, had to reschedule 2 midterms....

Still managing to pull As, but they are slipping, FAST.

I have missed so much that one guy thought i dropped the class. I missed 2 test (2 different classes), 1 presentation (i am missing another one next week). Tons of hours from work and tons of meetings for my organization. But since i m in, i am happy with a B in some classes. I know that i can get 3 A's out of 4 classes, so i am not that worried. I am done 😀. Probably next semester is going to be even worst

I'm not missing much. I scheduled my semester to have no classes on M and F, making T,W,and R completely hectic. I also am putting a huge amount of effort into finding planes that leave after classes finish (on Thursdays, for example), or that leave immediately after the interview day is over. I've missed half a class so far (had to leave early on a Thursday), and I've had 5 interviews. I've got 3 more interviews scheduled, and I'm not missing any class for those, either.

I envy everyone who has the option to set up their schedule the way they want to. My classes are offered once a semester, once a year. If I don't take it now, I would be stuck here for an extra year just because of a 2 credit class. 🙁
