if its really your top program, and by that I mean a potential #1, ask your advisor/home PD to place a call. If you are on a waitlist, that means you have been considered. So you need that edge to tip you over onto the favorable side. Just my two cents....will look forward to more opinions as well.
I'd agree - if you're on their waitlist, you are being considered. Ask someone close to you, who also carries some weight behind their name (ie, PD), to make a call on your behalf.
