I just got an interview to my state school with a 17/17/20!! I was thinking that I wouldn't get an interview until after I retake in December, but I guess they liked me enough 🙂

So my question now is.... What does this mean? If I rock the interview will they only accept me if I do better on the retake? I just don't know where I stand now...I better start studying soon!!

Congrats! I'm not sure what the answer to your question is, but I would imagine if they accept you Dec. 1 before you re-take the DAT you probably don't need to re-take.

What's your state school?

You probably won't find out where you stand until the interview. I would continue to prepare as though you will be retaking the DAT though. If you get lucky, you will get an indication of their positive decision before you retake and you can cancel without going through the hassle.

Good luck

You can't get a refund on the fee for the DAT, can you? I know it is a hassle, but if you keep studying and do well on your retake, you will have a great score to back you up in case you do not get in this year. Then you will be able to start next interview cycle with a good score and not have to worry about it. Plus you will not have to pay the fee twice if you don't get in this year and then decide you need to retake before next interview cycle.

Good point

Thats what I'm wondering...is it possible to be accepted before my retake? Especially if they are 'recommending' one?

Most schools generally take the ADEA's recommendations for acceptances, which is that they will send out acceptances starting only on December 1st. Therefore, it is possible, if your retake is early in December that you could be accepted and not get the letter before your retake. It is also possible that the school where you are interviewing will not send out acceptances that early (although most schools do, I think) and then you will still not know if you have been accepted by your particular school.

If I were you (which I am not, so take this advice with a grain of salt), I would continue studying and go ahead and retake the test. Even if you do find out you have been accepted before the test date, you will have just effectively studied material they will expect you to know anyway on your first day of dental school.

Good luck! 🙂

Thanks for the advice...I'll definately be studying/taking DAT regardless of interview(s) that I get. 😎
