Which part?

It's ridiculous that you have to travel for the interview. So if I'm in New York and applying to California, it's gonna take me basically 2 days off from school....=/

I mean this as kindly as possible but it's ridiculous you think traveling for the interview is ridiculous.

This isn't something you do on a whim. Every dental school is different and you HAVE TO SEE them and they have to meet you. You have to meet the students, faculty, administration, see the location, the clinics, etc., etc., etc.

It's foolish to think your going to spend 4 years of your life and $100,000-200,000 on a school you've never been to before and that they're going to let someone who they have never met take a very valuable seat.

It doesn't stop with admissions either. You'll have to travel to interview for residency positions as well.

An easy answer is to apply to schools close to where you live. I didn't apply to California schools because I live in the NE and I couldn't afford the trip - Just one of those facts of life 🙂

Hi,
Wouldn't you want to see the school? Meet some students? Talk with faculty? I guess if you were in the running at only one school it wouldn't matter if you checked it out beforehand. Or if it was UOP vs. TJ Tech.

Would they make you go to the interview at the out-of-state schools?

Yeah, when I first heard about it, I thought it was crazy as well, but in a way, the investment is worth it for the both the school and me. Plus, it's nice to travel a bit. Now, what's ridiculous is that sometimes (I don't know how often), but sometimes school will contact the student a day in advance for interviews. That's down right messed up, but I've heard these stories.
