are the interviews personal? like has anyone ever teared up near the ending of the interview? and would that be consider a good thing or bad thing

im sure someone has cried but thats pretty lame, just avoid it. its not supposed to be that kind of personal. its almost like a job interview, a little less specific and more "why?" and "explain your activities" oriented

there's a dilemma in there. what if the interviewer ask what was the biggest factor in you choosing medicine and that was the reason? i.e. your brother/family member passed away from something that could easily been prevented, but it was not detected in time due to no one in the family knowing the signs, etc, etc..

you can do all that without tearing up. everyone has had someone close to them die, you HAVE to be able to deal with it in this profession, esp when the time calls for it and while an interview seems trivial its an obstacle for us so keep your cool

To tell you the truth, even if I had to talk about the saddest situation I have ever been in, I will be so nervous that crying will be the last thing I would do.

I'd stay away from crying. If anything, I've wrestled with whether or not to put something down on my applications because I'm worried that I'll break down in an interview.
