If anybody has interviewed or been accepted at any of the Virginia Medical Schools, I would love if you could post your stats (GPA, MCAT, in/out state, etc). I'm from Virginia myself and would love to attend one of these schools in 2003. Thanks in advance! 🙂

Accpeted at MCV, EVMS. Waitlisted at UVA.

In state
3.5
35 (11V, 13P, 11B, R)

Most likely going to Emory, though. Hope this helps!

Waitlisted @ MCV, and did not apply to other state schools. : 🙁

GPA-3.4
27 (7V, 10P, 10B)

Wait listed at UVA. 🙁

10V, 11P, 12B, P, 3.84, out of state.

Stats aren't so important here, heavy weighting to the interview.

Jade~

Accepted at MCV, out of state

GPA: 3.67
MCAT, 7V, 8P, 13B, R

I agree with the above poster that it's heavily weighted on the interview and how you fit in with the school's philosophy.

Hi,

Here's the info about the entering class of 2001 at UVA - I thought this might be helpful?
Mean overall GPA: 3.70
MCAT:
Biological Sciences: 10.76
Physical Sciences: 10.81
Verbal Reasoning: 9.96
Writing sample: "P"

I think usnews.com used to have this information for all med schools but I can't find it on their site now - but if you can find that somewhere I thought it was really helping in figuring out where to apply (looked for places where my GPA/MCAT would be around average).

As someone who lucked out with admissions at the three schools, I also agree that the interview is very important at each of the schools - they want to see that you'll be a good fit. Letters of recommendation are also really important, as far as I can tell. Good luck and if you have questions about interviews at these schools, post them! 🙂

p.s. Jadeite, I'm sorry to hear you're waitlisted, I hope you get accepted soon!!

I was accepted to MCV, out-of-state.

GPA: 3.47
MCAT, 1st time: 9v, 10p, 10b, Q
MCAT, 2nd time: 8v, 11p, 10b, Q

Hey!

Accepted at UVA, MCV, and EVMS (partial merit scholarships at all three):

GPA: 3.10 (BCPM), 3.58 (all other)
MCAT: 30Q (9V, 10B, 11PS)

In-State!! 🙂 Good Luck to you - these schools have some of the nicest administrators ever!! Goooooo Virginia!! 🙂

Rican -- where'd you decide to go? And btw, did EVMS actually send you their financial aid form??

Hey Anath!

I actually decided to go to Duke - I suprisingly got more scholarship money from them than my in-state schools.

EVMS sent me the award offer before any financial aid information. Now that I think about it, I never received any financial aid forms from them and I didn't withdraw until after March.

Good Luck!!

😡 dangit!!! I'm gonna go wave my fist in someone's face when I get down to school! For the past 3 weeks, I've been calling them about the financial aid. They keep telling me that they can't do/say anything until they get my name from the admissions office. WHICH, teh admissions office shoulda done before-hand, and if not before offering admittance, then at least when they cashed my deposit $. What got me mad was that after all these calls, they send me a letter I got yesterday saying that they can't process me until I turn in their specific EVMS award application. Shoooot! How in the world am I supposed to do that if they haven't sent diddly to me? They could have sent me that the moment I called them the first time 3 weeks ago! And I'm told it's a single 1 page checklist basically. Oooooh, the fin. aid office has pissed me off. Okay -- I'm done venting.

🙂 Good luck at Duke! That first year is going to be intensive as hell -- 2 years crammed into 1 year? ::shakes head:: I can't imagine.

Any Graduate Students (MS, MPH, PhD, etc) have any stats for instate Virginia Admissions? What do they expect differently than Undergrad level applicants? What exactly does it mean that the adcom's put weight on "if someone will fit in" or not?
just a couple quick ones.....
Thanks and good luck In-Staters!
