To all you SDNers--does anyone know if all undergrads applying to their undergrad's dental school (ie. a Tufts undergrad applying to Tufts dental) are basically guaranteed an interview as common courtesy? I have heard rumours like this, but was wondering if this is actually true. Is it easier for undergrads to get interviews at their home institution, or are they on a level playing field with all other applications.
On a similar vein, do dental schools generally preferentially accept their own undergrads over other applicants?
Thanks for taking the time to answer this thread!

For my personal situation, I was an undergrad at one of the schools I applied to and did not receive an interview the first 2 years I applied to the dental school. I have recently taken the DAT again and was granted an interview at my undergrad school, however I think it is level playing field. Maybe it could be used to help decide between a few but from my experience everyone is equal. Unsure whether they accept their own undergrads over others, however I have heard of students getting in out of state but not our in state school (3 people)

I personally have 4 interviews, (2 from public oos schools) and not my home state school. Kinda makes me mad...
