Just wanted to get a general SDN consensus.

I was fortunate enough to have been accepted to a medical school at this point in the cycle and some waitlists. It's not my #1 but certainly is in the top 7 schools I'm considering due to cost, location, mission and philosophy etc...

I have a few more interviews coming up for schools that I ranked as lower on my preference list.

Would it be wise to just withdraw from the schools ranked lower on my list or should I still go on their interviews? Do schools generally swing more fin aid $ if they see a few acceptances and they really want you? I would think it's highly unlikely since if you go there are plenty of other students to take your place.

Any other advice or comments would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

That is really up to you. If you have an interview with a school that is ranked 20 on your list and is on the other side of the country, probably don't want to attend the interview. If you have an interview at your #10 that is also pretty close to home (low interview cost), then you really have nothing to lose.

Just compare your costs to your benefits by attending each interview... if they are worth the cost of attending the interview than just go for it!

Would you even consider going to those schools, given the acceptance that you have? If not, then you'd be better off saving yourself some money and not going, which will also allow another hopeful applicant to get an interview.

These schools are lower ranked, but do you really have enough information about them? Lots of folks on SDN report being impressed by a school that they didn't think that highly of initially. On the other hand, you are taking a spot from someone else. It is really how confident you are about your school selection.

I would go, unless it' s a school that you only really applied to as a safety school.

It really depends on whether you would seriously consider attending those schools if accepted. I withdrew from a lot of schools (after getting interview invites from them) when I got accepted to one of my top choice schools because I knew I wasn't going to attend (combined with an angry boss).

Yup, it is up to you. I reached a point where I chose to decline certain interviews and acceptances because I knew the school I was accepted in would be a better fit.

It depends on your financial situation, but I would still interview at a school that has a potential for being worthwhile because you might just like the atmosphere there better (conversely there may be a few schools that you think you would like but find that the atmosphere is not a good fit for you).

Also as far as I know schools don't really offer more aid to students with multiple acceptances. I remember that they would often say stuff to our interview groups along the lines of "because you are here, we know that you all will have no trouble getting acceptances from a number of schools." But hey, you can always try.
