When I called to schedule an interview this morning, I was warned that I would be interviewing with all MD/PhD applicants. I'm just a regular MD applicant and she assured me that this would have no effect on my interviews. But she also said that many people prefer not to be with MD/PhDs. Why would this be? And should I change my interview?

just be aware that if you have done research (or emphasized research on your app) then you'll want to be prepared to discuss it intelligently.

I recently interviewed with a "Mudd-Fudd" who really grilled me on my research. Fortunately I love and know well what I do.

Other than that, it was a normal medical school interview.

Good luck!

Oh sorry, I just realized that I worded my question totally wrong. I meant that the other applicants would all be Md/PhD applicants and I would be the only normal MD applicant.

It doesn't matter. Since I have no idea what your app looks like, I was just giving some general advice, Tulip. Are you claiming any research (or desire to do research) on your apps? If not, then it should be a normal interview. But you know, people are individuals and you can never predict these things.

To tell you the truth, I prefer speaking with researchers. That's just me.

I would prefer this as well. All this crap about life experiences, the logic which led you to medicine et al just waste a lot of time and in the end there is really no appreciable logic there. I know I love medicine, but I really can't find any logical explanation for it. I think it's like asking me the logic I used in getting my girlfriend (or wife, as it applies). I could state that I liked her, she had a nice body, good personality--but there is no logic here. The only place where I happen to find passion and logic finely mixed up is research, I will do this over anything, anyday and anytime--as a result best interviewer would be an MD/PhD.

I read it that way the first time?!?

The reason why it might not be so hot is that MD/PhD candidates are, on average, better candidates than the general MD candidate population. So, you might suffer by comparison relative to interviewing with a group of MD-only applicants.

If you are a strong applicant for the school, then don't worry about it. But if it's a reach school for you, you might want to consider changing your interview date.
