Hey all-

Found out today I have an interview at Nova on Thursday. Just wondering from those of you that have interviewed there how the interview goes? Stress/No Stress? Informal? Things to Expect?

Appreciate any information, thanks guys.

Super laid back, even more so than case.

I interviewed there last week, and posted feedback on the interview forums... Super laid-back, Dr. Lippman is the man. Talked about golf and football for half of the interview. Don't stress at all - make sure you bring questions too. Good luck!👍

I wouldn't even really call them interviews. During mine, the two guys talked to eachother about football most of the time. I was only asked 2 questions that were not even closely related to dentistry. It lasted like 10 minutes 😕

Like everyone else said, the interview is super laid back. Unlike some of the others above, however, I was asked a few interview questions - I posted feedback on this. One strange question Dr. Lippman likes to ask is: "Who, in history, would you like to sit next to on your flight home?"

I talked with a friend who interviewed here and what he said is in line with pretty much everything here. Talk about football, sitting next to abe lincoln on the ride home, lasted 10 minutes, etc. It almost seems like a wasted trip? Certainly would be disappointing to me. I can only think they are just testing your social skills in a situation like this. They want to see how you interact. Orrr, maybe they have already decided who is getting in but they want to filter out the less visually appealing and socially inept applicants?

I could very well be 100% off base here. I just dont see what they are looking for in an applicant if it isnt to filter based on either of those two criteria? In a situation such as this I get the feeling the interview can only hurt you rather than give you an opportunity to explain circumstances that made your application suspect (Ex. a blown semister where your family died in a car crash and your fiancee ran off with her high school boyfriend).

After going through the interview myself, I felt as if they had already decided or something. I mean, I barely had a chance to say anything - I literally had to interject amongst the football talk. I felt as though my trip was wasted because I did not have a chance to talk about myself at all. I was not able to tell them anything regarding my application, which made me feel like the interview was just a formality for them.

This year they had over 3,000 applications, and will interview less than 300 people. From what I understand, they generally accept around 90% of those interviewed (everyone, minus the socially inept/over-confident/shady = 260ish) It is expected that 50-60% of those accepted will withdraw acceptances and go to other schools, leaving 40-50% of the interviewed applicants to enroll in the next class. So if my math is right.... .45 X 260 = 117 ..... Class size is listed at 105 (numbers might be slightly off - check the QR in my predents profile👎)

Anyways, at the interview they emphasize that getting the interview is the hardest part of the entire process, so that is why they don't try to stress you out. Have fun, good luck, and hope this has helped.

(p.s.- i didnt make up the numbers - they told us all of that at the interview)

I did not apply to Nova and have no knowledge of the program there, but based on what I have heard things are pretty good there. However, on Predents there appears to be a HSDM admit that is holding nothing back from bashing the program . . . . I wonder why?😉 Oh wait, I guess there is a reason I decided to withdraw from HSDM as soon as I got their acceptance letter 😀. I advocate respect for all the D-schools.

Ouch. I just read that paragraph on predents. Forget about pulling punches - that guy was chucking napalm.

I worked for Nova HPD for an entire year. If you believe a word they say about admission/interview numbers, you could not be more wrong.

300 interviewed :laugh::laugh::laugh:
90% accepted :laugh::laugh::laugh:

I will just clue you in: those numbers are very optimisitc.

I advocate respect for all dental schools as well. I have always really liked all of the Nova students and faculty that I have met. I always defend Nova whenever people make ignorant comments about the school.

I also advocate not stereotyping dental schools and the dental students that choose to attend them. Shunwei, I understand that HSDM was not your first choice, but other students are thrilled to go there for a variety of reasons. Please don’t assume that all of the students that go to a school have the same personality or characteristics. I think I would surprise you 😉. Best of luck to you at UCLA.🙂

Sure, best of luck to you too. There are a couple of famous Chinese adages that I can best summarize as "Like attracts alike" and "Get close to something crimson, you become red; get close to something like ink, you become black." I think I will just leave it that 😉.

just telling the OP (who asked about the interview/admissions process at Nova) what I was told.

maybe you could have 'clued' us all in about Nova in your previous posts (since you worked in the HPD for an entire year). That way I wouldn't make ignorant assumptions about things I am told to be true by a dean of admissions.

Hey I just found out on my AADSAS I was invited for an interview. Did you get an email or mail with the interview dates? I called in to schedule a date but she said to call back tomorrow...

Appreciate all the information guys. Sounds like its pretty laid back. Should be good.

I found out about my interview by phone. They called me and asked if I could do it this week. I just picked Thursday and that was good for them. I would think they would be contacting you soon by phone. Lady on the phone also said materials were sent in the mail, but that I probably wouldn't get them by the time I went down to interview. So you might check your mail in the next few days.

I just got mail from Nova today and the date is not scheduled until mid February. Could this mean I am interviewing for a wait list spot or something since it is pretty late in the cycle? I seriously thought I would be interview earlier since the rest of you were called in for this Thursday.

Got back yesterday, interview went really well. Was about 20 minutes, super chill, everyones real nice. They told me I wouldn't hear back until mid-february, so I wouldn't worry about not interviewing until February.

I had the same thing happen to me and i got my interview invitation back in November.... Monday morning call them and ask if there is anything earlier. I got mine changed because Dr. Lippman was visiting my school and he told me that a mid/late february interview is very unlikely to get admitted... So again call them up and try to get it changed...
