I have gotten a handful of interviews in the past two weeks, but I haven't heard from my top three choices. By when do most people hear about interviews, esp at places like Children's National? Is it appropriate to contact a program or two and tell them that you'd really like to interview?

Many competitive programs wait until Nov 1st to offer interviews, after they are able to view your dean's letter. I think I will wait until the 1st week in November to contact programs.

Don't worry, I'm in the same boat. Still waiting on all the big guns I applied to (ex. BCRP. MGH, Columbia, Cornell, CHOP, Children's National, Children's Memorial, UCSF, Stanford). Some have given out invites, but those appear to be reserved for either the strongest candidates or with connections like away rotations...so I guess I'll be waiting till November. This process is definitely a good test of patience!

depending on your application and how many apps they receive, etc., you may be waiting into january. they tend to send out a whole bunch right after the dean's letters (in the first week or two of november)...then it chills out a bit until december, when you get another batch (they start offering when other people start cancelling)...all the way through january. don't fret. call starting in the second week of november to "check on the status of your application" (i.e. "when the hell are you going to offer me an interview?")

good luck...the match is quite a process. invest in a good book and a comfortable neck pillow for the plane rides...you'll need them.

Thanks for all of the info, I definitely feel much better. I'm satisfied with the programs that have offered interviews, eventhough I haven't heard from my top 3, so I'm trying to just be okay with the interviews I have now.
