Hey folks,

Match season is officially open, interviews are supposed to be coming up.
My documents have all been sent out, and I have applied to 45 Internal Medicine Categorical programs.
It's September 8, no response as of yet.

It would be great to have those who got interviews requests to post here.

45?? geez. I'm applying to categorical medicine as well and I'm not even applying to half that number. I always thought only the rigorous fields like ortho and plastics require that many applications.

nevertheless, gluck. I know I need it.

codeb1ue- DO's and Caribs will apply to double/triple the number that AMG's will. The only reason AMG's would apply to this many programs are failing scores, couples match, OCD. Probably double for the PC fields and we're talking like all programs for the more competetive fields...

OP- this thread is already alive in the IM forum, u're most prob not going to get responses here...

Dude, let me give you an idea of my profile;
99 Step 1,2 and 3.
Passed Step 2 CS.
4 Excellent LORs.
2 years postdoctoral research in molecular cardiology.

And STILL I am applying to 45 programs and even might consider more simply because... as Ariee mentioned; I am an IMG!

Sucks eh? 😉

No need to give us ur profile. There are more than one of you out there with those stats and IMG status...

I assure you very soon, you're going to have someone run up to your post and tell you that your 99's don't mean anything and it's the 3 digit score, blah, blah, blah...(I've seen it happen on here many times)

Hahaha yeah I totally know what you mean, that's why I'm emphasizing the fact that even with a good profile as an IMG you still have to apply to a larger number of programs. Unfortunate isn't it? 🙂

I'll check the IM forum see what's going on.

PS: Canada does ROCK! (Well depending on where you go 😛)

Those are great scores and excellent research experience. You also sound like a friendly person so I'm sure the rest of your application is good too.

I don't know which programs you applied to, but if it's a good mix of reach programs and mid-tier progs you should expect about 20-25 interviews if not more. They may delay giving out interviews to IMGs till they get a sense of the AMG pool, but that could be different for different programs. Again this is only my opinion and not rooted in any insider knowledge.

Personally I wasn't sure which programs to apply to or not and in my foolish arrogance I applied to 45, amongst them 30 top tier, and the rest are also considered 2nd tier.
As of now I'm still considering adding other programs...

Keeping my fingers crossed!
