interviews conflicting with classes?...?

For those who apply during junior year... When you get interviews across the country or even the next state, how do you or how will you manage your senior year classes. I dont know how this goes on, so I just want some insight. What if you have 3 exams the same week, but a good schools sends you an invite that week, what happens. Plus if you applied to multiple schools, you might have to travel multiple times during autumn semester.

I had six interviews fall semester. Meanwhile I was taking biochemistry, histology, calculus, and another bs course (a lot of writing though ). All of my professors were really understanding about letting me make up work. They understood that interviews were a priority. But I made sure to plan well and be proactive. It was still pretty stressful, but I managed all As. If I interviewed Friday, I'd skip Thursday and travel (sometimes all day) and come back after the interview was done on Friday. If my interview was Monday, I'd travel Sunday (again, sometimes all day) and then come back Monday after the interview was over.

You will know when your interview dates are well in advance, so make sure to inform your professors immediately if any conflicts are going to occur. Most professors will be completely understanding and work out some kind of arrangement.

Also, try to sign up for as many online classes as you can. I was almost exclusively online during my senior fall semester and that helped me immensely when planning interviews.

But I'd caution anyone who is visiting a school and isn't familiar with the region or state and cares about fitting into the culture and atmosphere. I didn't get to spend any real time at any of the schools I visited, which was a problem for one or two schools that weren't where I'm from. I ended up having to painstakingly revisit a school after the semester was over, but before deposits were due because I didn't know what to do. It really is tough to get your head in the game of interviews and seeing schools while being in school at the same time. If you can afford it (time and money wise) stay in the area to see what it is like.

I would let your profs know early on, first week of classes, that you applied for dental schools and will hopefully have interviews coming up in the next couple months and how to go about making up classes, taking any missed tests, etc. Most profs are going to help you out the best they can because they want you to get into dental school. If they are jerks about it, might be a good time to switch to another prof for that class. I miss class for sports, not too often but enough, and they know that. I email them a week before and then again the day before. One prof last year was a bit of a jerk and didn't let me make up a pop quiz (against school rules) but other than that, I haven't had any issues.

Like others have said, your D-School interview is much more important than an undergrad class. Remember that your undergrad school wants you to get in to professional school because it makes them look great. If you professor ever gave you a problem you could just go to your dean and get an excuse.

I'm taking 17 hrs (bio chem, ecology, micro, anatomy and physio, seminar) but like Molar Bear said interview are a priority and we will just have to make room for them in our schedule.

I was careful with scheduling interviews when I was given the chance to pick my days. Kept all of my syllabuses handy in case I received a phone call or needed to respond to an email. However, exam dates change due to unforeseen circumstances like snow-days. Still, half of my professors gave me leeway with due dates such as essays, and the other half I talked to during office hours and followed up with an email to keep documentation of our talks. I ended up missing a few quizes and 2 exams. Thanks to being proactive I was able to make them up, but it's tough scheduling make-up exams with some professors. I ended up taking 2 calc II exams back-to-back followed by a quiz . The hardest part was forcing myself to study after missing so many days to attend interviews and still having senioritis in the back of my mind. You do what you've gotta do to not take a gap year.

Tell them on the very first day that you are applying to dental school and will have interviews coming up, even if you don't know when. Then as soon as you find out about an interview that conflicts with class or a test, let them know, forward them the email invitation so they know you're not making this stuff up.
