DMU today 🙂 JEWmongous where did you find such a cheap flight?? I can't find that price on any sites
 
Congrats to you all!! I now have interviews to Ohio, Sam Merritt, Temple, DMU, and Barry in that order. I cant believe DMU called!!! I am nervous about all of them! How long do you think it will take to hear back from each school?

Did you not already apply to try to get into school for THIS fall ('08)? What happened? Did you apply too late in the summer or something? 'Cause you have been posting on SDN fo awhile now and talking about how your interviews were even before anybody got interviews for the '09 starting class...

I applied very early last last year - September for class of 2012, interviewed everywhere but Ohio. Got in all those places as well. Completing another year of undergrad (for personal reasons - PM me) so I applied to a few schools this year for class of 2013. That's my story.
 
do you guys think the personal statement is a big deal? (i know you can't just blow it off but 500 words is not a lot). Also, anybody know how pod schools look at non-traditional apps? I have a business degree (finance and marketing) and then came back four years later and did post bacc science work (~3.5 gpa). I have 1.5 years research and am working 25+ hours as NA in a Burn Unit for a full year. Also, I was an athlete in college. I get my MCAT back on tuesday, and I most likely scored in the mid to upper 20's. I am submitting my app in a week and a half. Are most people applying to pod schools submitting apps now(already having taken MCATS and classes), or taking spring MCATs and then applying? Obviously everyone on this thread is applying now, but I am talking in general terms
 
I would say with stats like yours and with the mcat score in the range you are hoping for....as long as your personal statement just blends in you'll be fine...if you apply after you get your mcat score back...and it is in that range...i'd be surprised if 4/9 of the schools even read the personal statement!
You produce the numbers- you produce your interview...

Ah so I've heard from every school but NYCPM, Scholl and AZPod.. I'm so pumped for interviews and to take trips!! 🙂

Congrats to everyone who's being offered interviews! Just a question, though. How long after the interview will you receive your acceptance letters (because you know you'll get in! lol)? I can't wait to apply to pod schools... I wouldn't be able to apply until afte next semester (ending in May 09) which I think is too late for the Fall 09 year. So I'll be applying next September for 2010!
 
I got an interview at CSPM on Oct. 8th. Scholl November 13th, Des Moines November 14th.

WesternU just e-mailed confirming they received my application. Anyone got an interview from them??

CSPM and OCPM were same day (acceptance letters at end of interview day). Other schools more or less hinted at acceptance but received official accept. by phone, snail mail, or e-mail.

Didn't you get accepted last year JEWmongous? I'm a little confused...I swear you said that you sent your deposit into Scholl....

A little funny how he ALWAYS avoids this question...
 
So I am walking to the library yesterday and hear Dr. Weiner talking to one of the PA profs. He kept saying, "This kid would not quit talking about his experience in jail...he would say 'when the cops finally released me' or 'getting arrested for the fourth time really changed my life' or 'I usually only get that drunk once a month' or 'I swear he looked like a woman and I certainly did not know it was a cop' or 'when the cops arrested me at the strip club.' I could not believe it. This was the majority of his interview."

So, I would not recommend talking about your adventures getting arrested, or how often you hit the strip club, or about getting "that" drunk. I also would not recommend commenting on call girls or any recent exposure to illegal narcotics. Just my two-cents. Maybe the kid was interviewing for PA, but I am sure Dr. Weiner will hold the same reserve when interviewing for Pod.:laugh::laugh:
 
I just got an email from AZPod to set up an interview 😀 Apparently I have to do a supplemental application before my interview, but when I logged on to their system it said there wasn't one...huh? Does anyone know if all of the interviews are on Thursdays?

AzPod here as well. Where do you get ur AACPM ID? I went on my file but couldn't find it...
 
Nm, I had to call them and get it.

Same ******ed thing as last year, we have a week to make the first interview date. Quite lame.
 
I sent in my app last friday, and got an email yesterday from DMU for an interview. Of course I somehow missed it and replied today and now the quickest interview is Oct 31 instead of 7th. NICE.
 
So here's a question.. if I got invitations for interviews everywhere (which I have so far except Scholl), but I know I'm definitely going to go to Temple or NYCPM, should I bother going to see all the other schools? I'm definitely going to see Barry and Ohio, just because those trips are in my budget, but I don't want to do all those AND fly to AZPod, CSPM and DMU as well. I don't want to be rude, because I really do want to go see them all, but I honestly just don't want to charge the crap out of my credit card to pay for flights and hotels lol. I'd appreciate any input on how to handle all this 🙂

Oh and it is crazy how fast we have to figure all this stuff out! I'm trying to balance school along with scheduling and it's been pretty tough!

Why do you wanna see Barry and Ohio? I would trade those both in a heartbeat for DMU and CSPM/AzPOD. NYCPM and Temple can be done back in 2 days if you schedule it right, plus temple gives 2 nights free at a fancy hotel (sweet marketing gig). I did it last year and took Amtrak to Philly from NYC.

Overall, I visited all 8 schools, best experiences and interviews at Scholl, DMU, and CSPM.

I just don't have the money or the time to take off from school to see all 8 schools. I have classes 5 days a week and there's only so many days I can skip class and not be frowned upon by my teachers. I know they're great schools, but I'm just not interested in moving that far away.. and it IS possible to be successful coming out of Temple or NYCPM.
 
AZPOD received all my stuff on Sept. 30th and I got an email today to schedule an interview for the end of the month. right now there is basically no interview spots open until late october.

I agree. Juggling school and other priorities along with scheduling interviews all over the place is no easy task. But if you want, and have the financial capacities to do so, you can call the schools and ask them to defer your interview to a later date (maybe after finals?). That way, you can bundle and group all of your interviews within the same week (or 2weeks or whatevers) so you'll have time to concentrate on your studies. I found that flying out and flying back and making appointments and scheduling and booking flights really messed up my focus on other things. It's still relatively early in the game, so waiting a little longer (emphasis on little) probably won't hinder your chances of securing a seat at the school.
 
Got an interview at Temple today! Received emails from NYCPM and DMU. NYCPM said they are waiting on all my materials to get in, and DMU said my application is being reviewed. I just need to send in my LORs to have a complete file. Based off my initial application Temple invited me but it seems NYCPM won't invite without all the materials. Do some schools require all the materials to invite you for an interview or is it mostly determined on a case by case basis?

Temple is sending an official interview invite/packet to me in the mail, any idea how soon I will need to set up an interview date with them?
 
Dave martin called me about the interview. The next day, I scheduled it for Friday Oct 17. And I got a info packet 2 days later.

I say the sooner the better so you can beat the rolling admisssions.
 
it depends on the school. AZpod invited me without my transcripts (altough it turned out they already had them). I just talked with Scholl, and they are very specific and wait for a complete file. And with needing 3 letters academic (or 1 pre-med advisory) they can take longer too

Honestly, OCPM wasn't my #1 choice until I got there...The faculty & staff really stood out and I was impressed.....

Tour was w/ (3) first years.....Brief talk w/ a 3rd year.....

I'm made a decision to CANCEL my (3) scheduled interviews with DMU, AZpod, and Barry...


I'm about to create feedback thread in the "interview forum", as soon as I post this...

Why would you cancel all the other interviews? I think it's dumb to not have anything to compare OCPM against. You could throw out Barry or maybe even AZpod, but at least check out DMU.

I'm perfectly content w/ my decision.....Thanks, but I like the school & the area...I don't think it's "dumb" to cancel my other interviews 🙂

Here's why I believe so...

When I feel such a compatibility to something/someone, I just stick to it...There is no need for me to "Keep shopping.."
For example; Your wife see's a Prada dress downtown for $500, knowing that there could be a GUCCI dress 100 miles away for cheaper....She would be appreciative to both, but she decides not to go the additional 100 miles to "check."--So, she's fine staying in the dark about her decision, happy, goes out, haves fun, and didn't care about the possibility of the better deal..

***I dunno if you :idea: or 😕, about my example, but I've had a few corona's :laugh:

If you are alluding to the opinion that DMU>OCPM, that is subjective...I will/can still become a competent DPM while going there...

I will admit, DMU was my #1 (due to their popularity here @ SDN) but truth is, I DON'T want to compare DMU to OCPM....I'm like the wife---content with staying in the dark....
 
that's cool... I dig it. I did the same thing after visiting CSPM.... One more thing though, maybe change your profile to say "pre-podiatry" instead of "pre-dental" like it says now on your posts 😉..

Good idea, I didn't even think of that (asking for them to defer interviews).. thanks for the advice! I got 4 of them scheduled, so I think I'm good for the moment. The other ones would only be trips to see the school anyway since I'm headed to Temple if I get in! 😀

I don't think you're dumb at all.. I interviewed at Temple today and honestly felt like it was a perfect fit for me. They said I can call tomorrow and find out if I'm in, and if I'm accepted I plan on canceling some of my other interviews (or rather, not scheduling the rest of them since I haven't figured out dates for the rest lol). I'm headed to Barry this weekend, and canceling the hotel and flight would be a pain + extra charges, soo I'm going to keep that one. I also might keep NYCPM, because one of the girls I interviewed with said that she was definitely a fan of their clinical program, plus it's not too far out of the way for me. Good luck at OCPM! Yay pod classes of 2013 😀

I never thought I'd have to defend my own decision to go where ever the hell I wanted to go, especially here on SDN....We're all adults, and capable of making adult choices in life everyday....It's my life & noone else's, so it shouldn't concern others...

Hope things work out 4 you w/ your #1 😉
 
Has anybody heard of anyone getting accepted to Scholl yet?
 
So far I have invites to:

Temple
DMU
Ohio
CSPM
NYCPM

My file is on hold at Scholl, and I have not heard from Barry or Arizona
