Interviews for Fall 2014 Midwestern/AT Stills

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I know they have some dates in mid-October (around the 15th) and some in early November (around the 9th) at A.T. Still.

Midwestern AZ has at least two interview dates- October 30 and November 6

Hello everyone 🙂 I was wondering how long after your otcas was verified did it take for you to hear from AT Still? I read AT Still has a supplemental application, did you have you submit that before the interview? Thank you in advance, and good luck to everyone!

I heard within 3 weeks of sending of my application to A.T. Still and got invited for an interview. Yes, you do have to fill out the supplemental application before you can be invited to an interview so be sure to have $70 ready because you must pay that much when you fill out the supplemental application. The school sends out the supplemental applications to qualified applicants. Hope this helps!

Wonderful! Thank you!

Hi everyone, does anyone have any insight to how the interviews are conducted at Midwestern and ATSU? Will they be group or individual interviews? What type of questions will be asked? Thanks for your help!

2 weeks after ATSU received my app I got an interview with them. But I haven't heard back from midwestern and it's been 4 weeks.

Is anybody else in the same boat with midwestern? I heard midwestern was slow and I also heard some people never hear back from them. Any insight or ideas about hearing from midwestern would be awesome .

Thanks

Update: So I called midwestern and I was told that my app was reviewed and I was placed on an interview waiting list. What does this mean? Is this good or bad? Do many ppl get an interview after being placed on this list?

Thanks for any info.

It means that if people cannot attend interviews or MWU adds interview dates they will pull people off the interview wait list. Im not sure how many people actually get interviews off this list.

It's always ideal to apply as early as you can in a rolling admissions cycle, as early applicants are given priority.

Hey guys! I have an interview coming up at A.T. Still and am wondering if anyone has advice for what to expect. I was told it would be 45 minutes long which is kinda daunting to think about. Does anyone knows what types of questions they'll be asking? Thanks!

Interviewed with Midwestern on 10/29 and accepted on 10/31! The main interview took place with two faculty members and consisted of very basic questions like "how do you describe OT to someone who has never heard of it?" And "how did you become interested in OT?"

There was also a quick 15 min interview with the director of the program. She had your file/academic record open and went over your GPA, what pre-reqs you completed/still have to complete and gave you an opportunity to explain any specific academic situation (such as a low grade in a class). Make sure to come armed with lots of questions about OT and the program!

I still have an interview with AT Stills in January, though I'm considering withdrawing my application. The Midwestern faculty is really awesome and I loved the integrated campus.

Congrats! I was accepted at Midwestern IL and I too loved the program and faculty there. I'm still considering the A.T. Still interview though.

Hey BHSUStudent! No problem, here are my stats...

University: Scripps College
Major: Neuroscience - Cognitive/Behavioral Track
Overall GPA: 3.71
Pre-Req GPA: 3.75 (though I'm currently taking Anatomy and Physiology)
Science GPA: 3.48
GRE: N/A
OT Experience: 40 hours observation in pediatric clinic
Related Experience: Approx. 4 years as a mental health/substance abuse counselor at residential facilities and 2 years experience as a healthcare financial consultant.
Applied to: Midwestern-AZ, A.T. Stills
Interviews: Midwestern-AZ (10/31), A.T. Stills (1/6)
Accepted: Midwestern-AZ

Despite this early acceptance at Midwestern, A.T. Stills didn't schedule me for an interview until January. Most of the people I spoke with during our interview date had an interview with A.T. Stills within the next two weeks. It just goes to show you that interviews/acceptances can be very much random and completely at the discretion of what the university is "looking for" at that particular moment. I'm sure A.T. Stills gave pause as I have limited direct OT experience and have not completed A&P, where the grades are heavily weighed. You're most likely really, really high up on the wait list which means the likelihood you'll get in is sky high. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply MOTley16. Your stats are pretty impressive, I can see why you were in the first round of acceptances.

I've just been scheduled for an interview at AT Still on December 6th and am hoping someone can share what to expect. What questions do they ask? Is it completely nerve-racking or more relaxed? 🙂 What did you think of the interviewers, faculty, school? How long after your interview did it take to hear back from them? Were you accepted, waitlisted, rejected? Sorry - lots of questions! I noticed some of this was asked previously with no reply, so I'm hoping that some of you that interviewed last month and this month might be able to share. Thanks 🙂

My interview at A.T. Still was with two faculty members. It was followed by a campus tour led by a current student. It was all very relaxed. I think the questions were pretty typical OT interview questions. How will you manage a difficult program? How would you explain OT? and others like that. I can't remember how many questions there were in all. They had a set of questions but then at the end they asked me a few that pertained to me specifically. My interview was 45 minutes. I think the tour was about 20-30 minutes. I interview on Friday November 8th and I heard back around November 15th. I was accepted.

RedHeadOT, did you like the campus and program? I interviewed with Midwestern AZ earlier this month and was impressed by the program, but I would love to hear from someone who actually visited A.T. Still so I can get a feel for what that campus is like also. Thanks!

The campus and program were smaller than I had anticipated, so that surprised me.

Hopefully people are still replying in this thread! My OTCAS application was officially verified today and I applied to A.T. Still, Touro in NV, University of Washington, and Idaho State University. Has anyone applied to any of these schools and how long after your application was submitted and verified did it take to hear back? Thanks!

My OTCAS was verified on September 23rd, and I received a call from A.T. Still on October 9th inviting me to interview. Did you apply to University of Washington in Seattle or St. Louis? I applied to Seattle and was told a decision would be made around March. Hope this helps!

So it sounds like 2 to 3 weeks is the average wait time for A.T. Still. Have you done your interview yet? I applied to the one in Seattle as well. From what I've read, it doesn't look like they interview? Good luck!

Interview is December 13th! I received a call inviting me to interview. I don't believe that Seattle does interviews. I emailed the admissions director there awhile ago and she said she wouldn't start looking at applications until after the first of the year. Good luck to you too!

That's so exciting! I'm getting antsy waiting to hear back. Do you mind me asking what your stats are?

I hope you hear good news soon! Here are my stats:

Overall GPA: 3.9
Pre-req GPA: 3.8
GRE: 157 V, 144 Q (math is not my friend, haha), 4.5 W
Work experience: 1,000+ hours working at a respite facility for kids
Shadowing: 35 hours at a therapeutic riding center, 80 hours at a neurorehabilitation center

Thanks, same to you! Very nice!

Overall GPA: 3.5
Pre-req GPA: 3.8
GRE: 157 V, 152 Q, 4.0 W
Work Experience: 7 years experience working with kids, 1500+ hours as a CNA in an in-home facility, 500+ hours at a children's autism clinic
Shadowing: 25 hours at an occupational therapy clinic, 15 hours with an in-school OT, and a 45 hour internship there as well

Your GPA is a bit more impressive, but I feel like I have a fighting chance. Thanks for the confidence boost. 😉 I'm guessing you are interviewing for Fall 2014?

Yep, 2014. Your stats are great! I'm sure you'll get an interview. 🙂

Crossing my fingers. =) Best of luck with your interview!

Has anyone interviewed recently or scheduled to interview soon with Midwestern AZ? I applied late and still haven't heard back. I did get an interview invite from AT Stills for an alternate spot, but declined.

Is anyone on the waitlist for Midwestern AZ?

@TexasOT2be , I interviewed with Midwestern AZ back in December and am on the alternate list. When I last called the admissions office, they said they were still doing interviews, so hopefully you'll hear something soon!

Why would schools continue to interview when they already have people on an alternate list? Do you know how long that list is by any chance? I hope it isn't the same as AT Stills where they are only interviewing to make up a larger waitlist.

I'm not sure how long the list is, but the woman I spoke with at admissions said that people wouldn't be accepted from the alternate list until the interviews were over.

@hbroth Oh, ok I guess that makes sense. Did they tell you when the last interview would be held? Last I heard it was April, but wasn't sure if anything had changed lately.

Good luck!

@TexasOT2be , they told me they would be holding interviews through March, but didn't give me an exact date. Good luck to you too!
