I'm new here so I apologize. I'm a Texas resident and recently did not receive a match offer on the first day. I know it's just the first day, but I'm disappointed/frustrated. I've received interviews at all 8 MD schools in Texas (Baylor obviously included) and just have UTSW and San Antonio left.

I've got around a 3.9-3.95 TMDSAS GPA in both sciences and overall. Got a 31R on MCAT with a 10/10/11 breakdown. Guess I should also say I've tutored multiple classes in college, am apart of a community service organization, a pre-med organization, as well as played baseball for a while before getting injured. I'm a finance major tho and worked last summer at an investment bank. I have shadowed orthopedics, neuro, pulm/immuno, and pediatrics. I also did research after my freshman year and into my sophomore year in chemistry.

I am not too worried about acceptance to any school yet, tho give it time and it will come. But I'm worried about getting in to my top choices now because I did not receive any prematch offers. My main goal here is to see if 1) anyone else is in (or has been) my position and 2) if its known about how many of kids who interview receive prematch offers. I know A&M generally accepts all their students via prematch, and Houston does barely any, but I guess I'm wondering if about 50% who interview receive prematch offers or if that number is way high? Just trying to stay positive here.

Nope. I do know of the program tho.
I see. Well from anecdotal reports in some of the Texas school specific threads I follow, it seems that schools are offering fewer pre-match offers this year. I'm sure it's disappointing to you, but keep your head up until the match!:luck:

Come back and bump this thread later on with updates

The only thing I would advise in the meantime is try to nail your remaining interviews. Make sure you research the schools thoroughly and maybe even have mock interviews with real questions found in the interview feedback for each school

Hey man don't worry. I have almost exact stats and have also interviewed at 6 Texas school with 2 more coming up, Baylor and San Antonio. I know I freaked out a bit and I was fortunate to get one pre match...but from what I hear, the Texas schools aren't giving many pre matches this year in comparison to the previous years. All I can say is that we have to stay optimistic.

Best of luck. Before we know it...we'll be jumping up and down after we're accepted.

Hey man I wouldn't worry too much if I were you. One of my friends has identical stats and has only prematched at TCOM so far. While other friends with lower stats have multiple prematch offers. It's all a crapshoot. I think the TX schools are just really being careful with their seats this year after A&M's issue last year. Take this with a grain of salt but I've heard A&M is only offering 1 prematch seat for every seat they have to offer. It's because they have 30 less seats. Can anyone else confirm this? Regardless keep your head up. You sound like an awesome candidate and I'm sure you'll be becoming a physician in no time.

It is same as well for me! I have almost the exact stats as you and have 6 interviews (UTSW coming up), but no pre-match offers. I am super frustrated and disappointed at myself. It is also frustrating for me because people all around me had at least one offer.

Asnanime--When are you interviewing at UTSW? Mine is this coming weekend. That's for the insight/support. Just stressful. Anybody have any insight on how common prematch offers are after the first day?

Just a heads up ... of the students that I met at my interviews, I would say ~50% didn't prematch into the school that they were attending (I would even venture to say that 20% of the students I talked to didn't initially match into their current school, either).

With 8 interviews, I would find it hard to believe that you don't get in somewhere.

Bumping this up but also just wanted to ask what everyone's opinions were on sending letters to schools for updates? I have an idea of what I'd want to say/inform but any suggestions? Don't do it at all? etc.

Well you have the EXACT same numbers as me (not even kidding). When did you interview at all your other schools? And I really don't think you have anything to worry about. A lot of people get accepted in the match process. This is pure conjecture on my part, but I think most Texas schools so far have only sent about 25% of the total number of acceptances (around 100 - 125 at max) that they are eventually going to need to send out to fill up their classes. Probability says that your chances look good.

I finished interviewing at my last school on Monday Dec 5. I had started interviews as early as the last week in July/first week in August. (whichever was A&M's first day of interviews).

Rank orders submit today. Now the magic happens where hopefully the big machine spits out a school for me. Can anyone comment on how common it is to get off the wait lists at various schools? Feb 1 can't get here soon enough. Oh and how much do Fall semester grades of this year matter? I did well, raising both of my gpa's ever so slightly, but just curious?

For the most part you get a lot of movement from the schools as march/april approach. Problem with the prematch is you get a lot of people with multiple acceptances (because of course they are stellar applicants). Your stats are good, but I guess 31 is more middle of the road these days, but that just means you'll probably get in on the match or with the ton of wait list movement the texas schools always see. Waiting blows, but you'll more than likely get in somewhere. I suggest passing the time with the drinking/hobbies you won't get to do anymore once you start next fall.
