Hi!!

Having interviews at:

1- University of Kentucky
2- Indiana University
3- Western University (California)

I am OOS for all of them, away from stats (because they do not mean that much when you get to the early interview level for most of the schools)... what do you think about OOS chances for these schools to get a December acceptance? what do you know about their wait-list movement after December for OOS?

and in general... does having three interviews at this time give a hint that I have a good chance to get accepted this year (I am a reapplicant!)?

Thank you

While, yes, we are your brethren/sistren in angst and most of us are happy to answer your questions, repeat or not, do a little searching and you're quick to find your answer. In fact, there is a thread just a few down posing the very same question. Basically, every school is different and in the end none of us are privy to a school's formula. That said, the largest body of empirical evidence we have on the matter can be found in the ADEA Official Guide to Dental Schools, the data from which has been recreated in doc toothache's 2012 range of GPA/DAT thread. You'll see in there the percentage of students who were invited for interview, and the percentage of those who were accepted.

I think what he is asking is whether an early interview means that a school wants the applicant more than those that receive the interview from that school later.

Thank you for sharing these statistics
I have this file already and my school's list was mostly based on it... but I wanted to see if somebody have been through interviews at these schools before or some dental students who can share information out of the statistics we know!

Ah, I see. I wonder the same thing. I tend to think schools choose the most desirable candidates from their current applicant pool for the earliest interviews. As an aside, I also wonder if schools try to meet some sort of quota in terms of raw GPA/DAT statistics - for example, school A only has 5 slots for students who's GPA is <3.0 or DAT is <17AA. I know people have mentioned UNLV's formula on here before, where they give every applicant an interview score and an overall score and that plays into the decision. I wouldn't be surprised if other schools had a similar tactic - after interviewing hundreds of applicants with similar coursework and DAT scores, experiences/stories, shadowing they'd have to start blending together at some point. I'd assume having some sort of objective criteria, like an overall applicant score, might make the decision making process a bit smoother.

Anyway, here were some other thoughts on rolling admission recently - http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=1029591
