I am applying to med school in this cycle. I applied to ~20 schools and I was fortunate enough to receive 14 interview invitations so far. However, I am distressed by the expensive nature of interviews and the fact that I have to take 2 days off of work for each OOS interview. I plan on attending all of the interviews scheduled before Oct 15th. My question is whether I should book the flight tickets and hotel for the ones after Oct 15th ahead of time. Can someone with similar experiences provide some thoughtful insights on this topic?

subtle brag, much?

You should have been scheduling as many as you can after October 16th in case you get an early acceptance...that's what I did. I also am not buying plane tickets or booking hotels until 2 weeks out.

Shouldn't I be scheduling most of the interviews before Oct 15th to take advantage of the rolling admissions process?

Similar situation here (13 interview invites). What I did was schedule flights/hotels ahead of time for the schools that I want to go to. For schools that are meh and are interviewing in November or later, I'm planning to book the stuff at a later time or not book it at all if I get accepted to somewhere I want to go.

Book the ones you want to go to most earlier...the ones that are more back-ups book later...I have at least 4 interviews that I scheduled in November when they still had dates in October in case I get that October 16th acceptance from a certain school...everyone has their own strategy man.

It really depends on money and time. I scheduled all of my interviews before Oct 15 that I could fit in because I simply wanted to finish. All of my schools are in the NYC Boston DMV NC areas so travel from all of my interviews will probably land around a 1,000 which is one flight for most AND I could afford time.

ChemEngMD is right too. If you're flying a lot cross country etc. you should prioritize because after Oct 15th you will not care about a few schools anymore and that will save you a ton of money and time.

Good luck!

Yeah, I've scheduled the ones I really want to go to before October 15 so that I can hear back on Oct 15, but for the ones I don't really want to go to, I scheduled them after Oct 15 so that I can cancel them after I (hopefully) get int somewhere on Oct 15. Besides, my boss is angry that I miss work so much already and he keeps on asking me if I'm going to go on more interviews...
