Interviews

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
In my experience, most schools scheduled a month ahead of time. One of my interviews was scheduled a week and a half from the date the invite was received, but that was because it was the only day I could come in.

Okay cool. I'm trying to figure out how I would schedule my interviews with my work schedule. Maybe lump them together? Idk.

I've heard of people who send in 'In the area' requests for an interview (i.e., to request that the AdComm provide an interview when they are close to the school for another interview or for some other reason). This seems risky to me, but apparently it works for some people. Shrug.

When do interview invites generally start to trickle in?

Got my first on 11 July last year, so even within the next few weeks for some schools.

Also, the scheduling distance will vary heavily by school. My shortest notice was about 3 weeks, whereas another school emailed me in July and told me to pick a date anytime from October to March, I believe. It just depends hugely on the school.

Extremely variable, based on when you completed your application, how strong your app is, the schools you applied to, and tons of other factors. My interview invites ranged from 7 days after completion to over 7 months.

I agree with everyone else. It depends largely on when your application was marked complete and how "desirable" you are to the school.

I should mention that it was waiting for interview invites that gave me the most anxiety when applying. It was difficult seeing people accrue 5-8 interview invites on MDApps by October and bump school-specific threads with "II! Complete [insert date after you]". The waiting sucks, certainly, but I think it's being out of control that's worse.

Don't agonize over it. Periodically checking school-specific threads is encouraged, but don't let other people's outcomes bother you. I submitted my application 18 days after it opened, pre-wrote 20 secondaries throughout July and was eventually complete by mid-August.

To make you or anyone else feel at ease, I received 3 interview invites at the end of September, 2 in mid-October, 1 at the end of October, 1 in November, 2 in December, 2 in mid-January, and 1 in February. As you can see, the deluge of interview invites from August-September was not as severe for me as it was for others on SDN. So while the number of interview invites normally declines after October-November, there's plenty of schools that will interview into April and extend invites accordingly.

As @Goro will remind everyone once the freak out begins, "patience is a virtue."

@Amba, do you mind me asking which school invited you to interview on July 3?

Jeebus. This makes me feel ****ty about not having submitted my primary yet.
If you're getting interviews, that means you've completed a secondary for that school...in late June? Holy hell.
