Can someone tell me when Rad Onc programs first start letting you know about interviews? Is it Oct or Nov? And is it done my email or phone?

As early as late October all the way thru Jan. Most between November and X-mas. Email and phone both.

Email seemed to be the preferred method of contact in my experience and in what others reported here. Letters are almost always BAD! FYI, some programs still have yet to let me know of my status. I decided yesterday that these programs are not going to contact me. If they do contact me, I will let you know.

Thanks for the response. The reason I am asking is that I was thinking about doing an abroad rotation from mid oct to mid nov and wasn't sure if that was a good idea or now. I would have access to email but not my phone. What do you think?

From my experience last year, interviews were offered from October until January as mentioned. I had some interview offers through the mail also. The letters are not all bad! 🙂 So if you are on an abroad rotation and do not have access to your mail and phone and only your email, then you might miss out on the first crack to the interview. Remember, some programs have limited spots for interviews and you want to secure the ideal date for you. This is done by a first come, first serve basis. If you have someone (family, friend, etc.) answering your phone and mail, then it might be nice to get away as long as you have access to a phone at your abroad rotation to call and confirm the interview.

Good luck in making your decision.

Which programs offer interviews through the mail? I had heard that letters were bad too.

Last year I recall two interviews received by snail mail from William Beaumont and University of Miami. I am not sure if there are any others.

Not to add to the neurosis of the match process but I would suggest frequent e-mail checks in those first few critical weeks as scheduling will become your biggest headache. The earlier you get back to a program, typically the more choices you'll have. Don't wait a day to check your schedule; the time invested in being on top of your schedule will pay off in travel costs, I assure you.

that is a very good point. more than one person has found there is a conflict of scheduling days and neither program will budge.
