As a 2003 applicant I am not familiar with the interview schedules and was wondering if anyone knows if December is generally a big month for interviews?

Interviews begin in September and generally run through May...some schools even later.

Interviewing before Jan 1 is ususally a pretty good sign. Interviewing earlier is a very good sign. Interviewing later is not as good, but it doesn't mean you cannot get in.

One admissions director told me that by February, 95% of the class is filled and they are interviewing for the last 5% and wait lists.

If you are early in the interview schedule, they are more likely to take a "mediocre" applicant, whereas later in the interview schedule, you need to really shine in order to be placed in that last 5%.

The more open spots they have, the better your shot at getting in.

Good luck.

JPHazelton hit it on the head. All of my interviews were in March and despite having competitive qualifications, I was waitlisted at each school. One my interviewers even told me that had I been there in October or November, I would have had a much better chance of acceptance than I did in March.

Get your files completed as soon as possible! You'll be glad that you did.

Good luck!

By the way, DrMom, has anyone ever told you that you look exactly like the mom from Malcolm in the Middle?

Also, sometimes schools which are supposed to be affiliated with the state (but not state schools -i.e. they only accept mostly in-state residents) will need out-of-state applicants in the final months of the interview process. You then have another shot at getting in if you're applying out of state, etc.
