I heard I am supposed to ask questions at interviews about the school I am interviewing with and things like that. I was wondering if anyone can help me with what kind of questions (about what) I am supposed to ask.

Well the whole point of asking questions about the school you are interviewing at is to get answers to the questions that you have. I don't really think its a matter of asking the right or wrong questions. What do you want to know about the school? Why are things done this way or that way? What does the school do to help etc etc etc.

I asked about research opportunities. It's best you ask simply because you are interested in knowing. Otherwise they might really think you want to do research and start hooking you up with other profs 😀.

Are you serious? First, I'm not sure how the hell a question of that sort wouldn't be appreciated. Second, how do you mean you were "docked points"? Of course, there's no actual point-system, so I take it something was said that made you feel your inquiry was inappropriate — what exactly were you told?

I wasn't accepted and that's what the admissions director told me when I spoke with her about my interview results.

Wow. Admitted, I'm being exposed only to your account of what happened, but, if it's an accurate portrayal, I think that's absurd. Maybe the only question you were supposed to ask is, "YOU GUYS ARE GREAT! WHEN CAN I COME ON BOARD?"

Perhaps it could have been your tone, or the way you approached the question.
For example, there is a difference between "Why do SCCO students have to do research?" and "How does the research requirement enrich the student experience at SCCO?"
Regardless, I'm sorry that you had a bad experience. I think it is perfectly fine to ask about requirements and the specifics of a particular school, and in face I did at my SCCO interview.
