hey guys, i plan on applying to med school next summer...just a quick general question. would i miss classes during fall semester while i apply because of interviews or are interviews scheduled during weekends?

thanks

you will definitly miss class, almost all schools only do interviews on weekdays.

you will miss class...

rarely any interviews are given on the weekends.

Hey bakedlay!

You will more than likely have to miss some classes for interviews as they are held almost exclusively on weekdays, some schools only interviewing on certain days of the week which may exclude Fridays. Many students at my school do not have class on Fridays so they can have interviews then but they also miss classes because some schools only interview Mon-Thurs. However, you can give your professors enough notice that you will be absent from class and you can get the work missed. Professors, for the most part, understand that students have to miss class for interviews, yet they expect that students get the work missed and contact them if an exam will be missed or an assignment is due on an interview day. Professors want students to be responsible for themselves.

What you can do is drop classes altogether and be a full time interviewee. That way, you won't have to worry about missing classes and you can concentrate on preparing for your interviews. After all, interviewing is like a full time job. Of course this plan doesn't work if you don't get interviews. I guess you can say you're "unemployed" if that does happen.

lol, i asked because i might have to take a lab course that semester (which takes up a lot of time), so i wondered if it was a good idea thats all...🙄

I took 3 upper-division lab courses. I missed over 1/3 of classes and labs because of interviews. I had three 20pg lab reports due within 2 days. Suffice it to say taking labs while interviewing is a baaaaad idea. Not only was it hell, highly stressful, I'm now hated by my professors AND lab partners, but I'm sure my grades suffered, which is bad for waitlists.

My advice? Don't do it. If you are going to apply early, most interviews will be during the fall term. Save your labs for winter/spring.
