After receiving the e-mail inviting you to interview at a program, should you reply back and thank them, or should you wait until you are ready to tschedule the interview. And how long can you sit on an interview invite before seeming rude or disintrested?

In general, people recommend replying as soon as you can. Many programs offer interviews to an excess number of applicants - first come, first served!

Unless you have a really strong reason, I would reserve a date immediately . It's a bird in hand. Most times, you can reschedule later if necessary. If not, the slots have filled quickly, making an early reply important anyway.

Exactly. You can always try to reschedule or cancel later. I've already had to reschedule one of my interviews (to put it adjacent to another one in the same city, in a later month).
