I got an email today from a program that's known for being very good. They offered me one date. Has anyone else heard of a program doing this?

This has happened to me twice, one was just today. I don't know if it correlates to how they treat their residents - the one today was certainly from a program known to be malignant, but the other is not known for that at all. I'm sure you can ask if there are any other dates you could attend.

I feel your scheduling pain, though. This is becoming pretty annoying.

I had a few that offered me just 2 dates to choose from. I thought it was because their other dates already got filled.

If you're only getting one date, then my guess is that someone previously offered a spot decided to decline the offer and the program goes down their list to offer that one spot to the next person.

I don't think so. On the surgery forum, we all post when we get the interviews. NYU didn't start inviting until today, and a bunch of us got it today... I don't know about the others, but I only got one date.

Also, at least for surgery, some programs only interview on 2 or 3 days total.

That's right. It was day one, zero hour. Only one date offered.

i also had a program e-mail me with just one date about a month ago and another program with just 3 dates. I don't think it's necessarily that a spot just opened up because it was early in the interview season. I think that perhaps these programs want to see who is truly interested in their program - I think that as a PD I would definitely be more impressed with someone who called and asked for another interview date because they were so interested in the program....this is just speculation of course...maybe the more competitive programs just want to weed people out....just a thought...

Right, I got an email the other day with only four dates open as the others had been filled. Just be happy for the interview.

Oh, and if you get an invitation with a lot of open dates, make up your mind soon because the spots fill fast at most programs (Unless we're talking about the FP program which dares not speak its name in which case you can pretty much dictates terms). Usually in January some spots will open up as people with conflicts cancel interviews.

Yes but usually they let you choose between the blonde and brunette dates.
