Go on ebay and search for the 'solarcam' intraoral camera. It's about $50 bucks and works just as good as the $2000 model. I use it without problem for snapping photos of broken cusps for insurance pre-approval.
IMO, an intra oral camera is only good to show patient's how janky their teeth are where they cant see it in their bathroom mirror - like the DL cusp of 29. In my experience, intraoral cameras are much more bulky than a mirror, making it increasingly difficult to work with the handpiece + camera + assistant's suction + opposing dentition + floppy tongue + saliva + blood. Not to mention you would have to be looking at a monitor to do the work. It is already hard enough learning to use indirect vision while using your handpiece. I would expect it to be even harder looking at a monitor and trying to coordinate the minute movements of your bur with that on the screen. My advice would be to learn to use indirect vision in your mirror.
An intraoral camera will never have the resolution and clarity that your eyes would give you. And the field of view on an intraoral camera wouldn't be too good. Invest in a good set of loupes and use your trusty old mirror.
