Intro Eeg/emg Books

I'm a m4 and will be doing an EEG rotation.

I have no clue how to read an EEG. What books would one recommend for a beginner? I would really like to learn a lot, and will be spending a lot of outside time studying whatever book I use.

Also I'll be spending a little bit of time with EMG's, what book would you recommend for that as well?

Are you "fer sure" going into neuro?
If so, I STRONGLY recommend buying the following books:

For EMG, "Electromyography and Neuromuscular Disease: Clinical and Electrophysiologic Correlations" by Preston & Shapiro, is, IMHO, hands down THE best textbook on the subject for med students, neuro residents, and even EMG fellows. It looks big and thick but it is really very well written and (believe it or not) can actually be read cover to cover without it seeming like an onerous chore (how many medical textbooks can you say that about?). The newest edition also comes with a CD ROM (which I have not viewed but is probably a great educational tool).

A smaller, case-based-approach book is "EMG in Clinical Practice" by Katirji. Also very good, but again is more case-based with less basic anatomy and science than P&S.

For EEG, unfortunately, I've never found a real good equivalent to Preston & Shapiro (maybe someday I'll write it . . . ). Best bet is probably "Fisch & Spehlmann's EEG Primer." For a simpler text, try "Primer of EEG" by Rowan & Tolunsky.
