i moved across the country and am starting the prereqs at a local junior college. ive gathered lots of useful information and insight over the past few weeks just from reading all of your posts.

ill post more later about me and my questions about entering the world of predental/dentistry...

but have any of you seen this website yet? i was doing a google search the other day and this site came up...what do yall think of it?

I am willing to bet that any of the information contained within that book can be had for free on these forums.

I've seen that same website and wondered if it was all information that could be found for free but was just compiled in one place for the low low price of $39.00 USD.

Hello,

I bought this book last year when the website was still relatively new. The book is now in its 2004 edition. Granted that the information in these forums is good, there is definitely information in Dr. Kanani's book that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere in the forums. His advice is actually quite interesting and he pointed out some great information that I would have never thought of if I didn't buy his book.

In my opinion, as someone who has bought a previous version of his book, I would say it's a thumbs up. I got accepted and I know that applying some of the things that he clearly laid out helped me get in.

The information in the forums is good but jumbled together. Plus, he's been around a lot longer than us and has the credentials to prove it.

Once again, the forums are good but if you want extra tips that you wont find here, I would buy his guide. It's not that expensive at all.

Jessi

Hi there,

Last thing: never give up! I didn't think I stood a chance at getting accepted but the info in his book is very motivating and made me strive to do the things he mentioned I should do to improve my chances.

Anybody can get accepted with the right advice and the right resources. Thinking about it again - his book was actually excellent..

Jessi

$39.00 is a pittance when compared to the total cost of the whole application process. So why not. There might be some benefit in having the information (especially if a person has marginal stats or has their heart set on getting into a certain school). However, one would be wise to view the guide as just another tool amongst many rather than "a silver bullet." Nothing will ever replace plain old hard work.

A number of years ago corporations downsized middle management in droves. Many of the newly displaced white collars started doing seminars as a means to earn a living. In a short period of time, seminars became the new rage. After my company sent me to a seminar I got on a list and began receiving seminar advertisements at work on almost a daily basis. The one I remember the most was the one which offered to teach a person "how to fight dirty and stab your fellow workers in the back in order to survive and advance in the corporation."

i tried buying the book last year too...but it said i would have to wait till jan 15, 2004...now it says jan 31, 2004...

oh well...

Anything as important as this, that may help you get accepted to dental school, is worth the wait.

Jessica

clearly, ryche and jessica are promoting the book and website. mod should lock this one up!!!!!

Dont buy this book. This person is trying to pitch the idea that there is some secret way into dental school. Fact of the matter is: there isnt!

Save yourself 40 bucks and get some free advice from current students, and newly graduated dentists.

Yeesh, the things people will buy to get an "edge".

"You see, applying to dental school without a proven plan is a lot like trying to bake a cake without a recipe?you'll only end up making lots of mistakes, a big mess and wasting a bunch of money. Now I know you're an intelligent person if you are considering applying to dental school.

Seems pretty easy, right? But the truth is, I've found more people confused, perplexed, puzzled and just plain baffled about dental school admissions. And who wouldn't be? The application is a confusing process and there are so many questions to ask but no one knowledgeable enough to answer them. Well, almost no one."

I laughed when I read this!

I am by no means a rocket scientist. But with AADSAS, a monkey with a full frontal lobotamy can apply to dental schools very easily. All you have to do is research the schools you are interested in, and fill out the form. Easy!

The hard part is to get the stats needed to get in, but the application process is rather simple (at least thats what I thought).

Hi ohcdn and dental dream,

I don't work for the website and I dont even know who ryche22 is!!

I have bought the book in the past and I found it useful. Applying to dental school itself is very easy like you said but the book goes into details about other topics that helped me like personal statements, how to get off of waiting lists, impressive interview tactics, good solid advice that would have taken me 1 year to find and put together if i asked everyone on this forum. Anyways, its a good book and lets leave it at that. I just read the sales copy and true that the baking a cake bit is very funny 🙂but the book itself is a good one

Jessica

Yeah, this is a mess. Several posters with low post counts trying to promote a product. No casual purchaser of a book would defend it to such lengths and praise its countless virtues. Notice how these posts sound like they come straight off the website. I'd steer clear, this looks bad.

Everything in that book can be found as free info, on this site and others. It wouldn't take a year to find it, probably wouldn't take a week and you'd have lots of people's opinions rather than just one and you could ask them questions and get some interaction. Don't be scammed by a few dishonest posts!

I agree we should get a moderator in here.

Hit "search" by Jessia's name and notice how, without fail, all of her posts try to promote this book:

"Dr. Kanani's book mentioned that finance majors should add that they are interested in firstly pursuing dental school "

"The Ultimate Guide to Dental School Admission by dental school application expert Dr. Aly Kanani

I bought this book last year and it helped me tremendously so I'm sharing the link!

http://www.dentalschooladmission.com

Highly recommend it!

Jessica"

🙄 🙄 🙄 🙄

And to anyone who is wondering whether a book will answer all of your questions, I would choose asking people like gavin on this forum over joe shmo kanani any day!

Don't buy the book. It's a promotion scam! Don't get screwed! You'd think they'd be a little more intelligent in promoting their book. Nevertheless, thanks for the laugh Jessica and Ryche! Your time has come to an end. You've been caught!!!+pity+

whoa this is getting way out of hand...

yeah, im a newbie poster, and ive been reading for about a month, i have read a bunch of posts, and i think gavin's journal is really cool and helpful...

for the record i kinda think that site is shady, and that is what i PMed to ohcdn. i am not trying to promote that site in any way, i just wanted your input.

when i posted about the dates, i was politely trying to confront jessicasmiles because from what i gather the website is selling that package at the end of this month for the first time....it wasnt available last year as i know of; i could be mistaken about that.

but i dont think i am going to purchase that package because:

1. if i am right about the previous paragraph, that lowers the integrity of the company.

2. i trust your comments.

once again sorry for the confusion...

i start 2 of my prereq classes tommorrow and could really use some advice in posts to come.

please dont think i am anything but a curious new predent student.

take care

Hi there,

Wow you guys are so judgemental! Okaay, I wont say anything else about the book! I wasn;t going to anyways after everybody jumped on me! I still hold my ground that I have nothing to do with the website but I'm here to give advice and take advice from all the smart people on this forum, including jaap and ohcdn if thats ok??? I hope I can be of help to students on this forum. I really like how everybody helps each other out here

Peace,
Jessica

I'm watching.

Dr. Kanani, if you're reading this post, I'm telling you to stop hyping your website on this message board.

This thread is closed. I don't want to see any more hypes or flames regarding this website on this board.

Thank you all.
