My status at Geffen is Still under evaluation for an interview. Then I get this email invitation to apply to PRIME. Did anyone else get this email? I don't know if its a good thing or an implicit Geffen rejection. I am going to call, in the meantime, your opinions are appreciated.
Dear David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA applicant:
Thank you for applying to the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA medical education program. We would like to share information about an exciting new option: UCLA PRIME, which is a unique 5-year dual-degree program currently enrolling students in Fall of 2008.
UCLA PRIME will enroll eighteen students who will be both academically strong and committed to improving healthcare for the underserved. Ten of the students will be primarily associated with the UCLA Westwood program, four most closely associated the UCLA/Drew program and four with close ties to the UCLA/UCR Haider program. UCLA PRIME students have the opportunity to pursue a Masters in Business Administration, Public Health, Public Policy or pursue study in a limited number of other areas.
PRIME programs exist at each of the UC medical schools and focus on training physicians who will work with disadvantaged populations. UCLA PRIME will focus on disadvantaged populations, but particularly with emphasis on the development of leadership skills and knowledge so that graduates become leaders with a positive impact on health care delivery, services, public health and policy to medically underserved populations.
Perhaps you would be interested in joining us. A separate application is required for UCLA PRIME. So it will be necessary to return to the AMCAS web-site and designate the UCLA PRIME program separately in the same fashion that you have already applied to UCLA on your AMCAS application. Applicants will go through a different UCLA PRIME admissions process, one that we expect to be as unique as UCLA PRIME itself.
UCLA PRIME will be accepting applicants until December 21, 2007. Information about the program can be found at http://www.medsch.ucla.edu/uclaprime. Qualified applicants will be able to indicate the UCLA PRIME program (s) of interest as part of their secondary application.
If you have questions, contact UCLA PRIME at [email protected], or at phone 310.794.5912.
Thank you.
