ok.. i feel like an idiot but this is just not making sense to me.. 😕

weak acids are trapped in basic environments bc they dissociate.. ok fine.. but why do you treat an overdose with bicarbonate?
similarly for weak bases, which are trapped in acidic environments, why do you treat an overdose with ammonium chloride?
i would think that the treatments would be reversed...

in urine you want to make that specie the A- form instead of HA form, so you make salicylate poisoning pt's pee aklaine. You pee out the A- form, and more HA form diffuse in to become the A- form, you pee out more.

Now, imagine if you dont make your urine basic. HA stays as HA, so it diffuses back and forth, instead of being trapped in the peeing organ and forced to go out.

Sorry if this is confusing.
