I talked to Elaine last week and she said that the committee hasn't found time to meet, so they are taking longer than usual. She thought we wouldn't know until after Feb. 5th, when everyone with know their fate (alternates, acceptances, rejections). She said that it may take a few days to get letters sent out, but I'm assuming ISIS will be updated. Hope this helps!
 
I spoke with Elaine just before the 15th and she said they had sent out enough offers to fill there class but certainly didn't expect 100% yield. She continued to say offers would be ongoing as soon as they sifted through the deposits received. She didn't give me a time line but one can assume they didn't meet on that friday to figure things out and with MLK day yesterday they will probably meet to get things straight this week. If you can't wait you can call her but this seems like a reasonable window.
 
I formally sent them my rejection letter last week so there is at least one more seat open!! Good luck everyone!

Just out of curiousity how many of us resident are out there still waiting their fate? Congrats to those who heard back alreay!
 
I am officially an alternate. Got an email today. Better than a rejection! Let the waiting continue! 😛 I'm out of state.
 
I am in-state and still waiting. Thanks to everyone for posting what you hear, especially when you didn't like hearing it yourself.
 
Im on the waiting list too, Im an international student which is the same as oos. Gonna have to wait way more now 🙂. Congrat for everyone who got accepted. Please post if u hv an idea about how many are on the waiting list
 
When I emailed Elaine to tell her that I was interested in staying on the alternate list I asked about how many people were on the list, and how many people in past years were accepted from the list. Here's her response:

"Alternate letters were sent to 68 nonresidents. I won't know how many are on my alternate list until after February 2 when responses are due - probably 30-40. Historically, we may only have to go to the alternate list 4-6 times between now and registration. It varies."

Hope this helps. It looks like our chances are slim, but there's always hope. I'm sorry I don't know anything about residents.
 
I'm also on the alternate list (OOS). I talked with the dental school today and I believe residents will hear something by Feb 5th.
 
Congrats guys! I am out of state and just got an e-mail a day or two ago about being on the alternate list for Iowa. What are our chances?
 
I got accepted last week. See you guys this fall. When do classes start?
 
I was told classes will start on Tuesday Aug. 17th
 
That's probably your orientation that starts August 17th. Classes next year start August 23rd.
 
Is there a required computer to be purchased at Iowa? What about teeth collection? thanks!

Hey everyone! I got on the waitlist too. I waited til 2 minutes ago to send my interest in iowa to elaine because i was waiting to see if my primary email would fix itself and it hadnt so i had to send it to her via another email. Do u think she can see it or would it go straight to spam? I'm ssoooo scared!!!

Did you get anything sent to you from UIowa since the day you got accepted? (like a letter asking for deposits, official accpetance letter, etc)?
 
You should be receiving a formal acceptance letter by mail with instructions as to what else you need to do
 
yea, I got my letter about 4 or 5 days after my ISIS was updated
 
Received my alternate e-mail at 11:40am. Sad day! How about all the other in-staters?
 
I have been going on this forum reading alot of what you have said. So I figured i should share my story so maybe that'll help with all the speculations. I am out of state us citizen graduating in may from undergrad. I sent my application out thanksgiving day. UI received it and called me to set up an interview on dec 10th or 11th for a interview on the 15th. They told me they were going through their last interviews and that the official interview dates had already passed. I was notified of my acceptance dec 21 via ISIS and mail on the 22nd. Hope this helps.

Iowa is providing ranking for the waitlist.

Talib- were you given a ranking or did you have to wait until the residents replied to the alternate email? Also, is this info going to be sent out or is it just available upon request?
 
I emailed Elain Brown asking for my ranking. I am an international student which is considered within the nonresident pool so I got waitlisted on the nonresident alternate list. I do not know if they have one for residents, you can check. Sorry I forgot to mention im OOS earlier

In the alternate list email, it says that the college does not provide a ranking for the waitlist (for OOS). Do let us know, if you are provided with a rank in the list....it would be interesting to know where we stand. Thanks.

Do tell us if there is a ranking for the OOS waitlist. I am on it too but I was under the impression that there would be no ranking.
 
Hey Guys,

It is true that on the email they mentioned that rankings is not provided. However, I heard from my friends in dental school that they are providing this year, I contacted them and got my rank within the waitlist. I am praying that people will drop out so i can move up 🙂.
 
I emailed Elaine and she gave me my ranking! I'm towards the top so I'm more hopeful than I originally was. She said that there are 27 people on the list. I think the class is completely full already, and we're just waiting for people who've made deposits to get accepted to their top choice school.
 
Do you know if Iowa graduates place well into specialty programs?
I'm looking for stats for post-graduation results.
 
How do you know what your ranking is? Do you need to email Elaine?

Hey everyone! If any one of you is still looking for a place to live, here is a great option. I would have chosen to live here for all four years, but I'm actually going to attend a different dental school. It's a very nice studio located on 902 Newton Rd. It has its own bathroom, kitchen, walk in closet, and coat closet. There's also laundry on site. All utilities are paid by owners.
