I have a 3GS. I recently noticed that when I cover the small left speaker at the very bottom of the phone with one of my fingers, then sound becomes virtually non-existent (the sound that comes out from the right speaker is really really low in volume).

Is this normal? Should I go to Apple and have them check it out?

Thx.

That is the main speaker and it is normal. Nothing comes out of the other hole (it's not stereo). The right one is probably the microphone.

Yup. The left hole is the actual speaker while the right hole is the microphone.

Yeah, it's unfortunate placement when you're texting or playing a game in landscape mode, and your sound effects go away, since the speaker is right under where your finger needs to be. But if this is my main complaint, I'll stick by my assertion that the iPhone is the best money I've ever spent on an electronic device. 😀

Here here... and I've bought 3 iPhones. Every year I buy a new one and sell the old one to cover the cost of a new one. I've yet to pay more than 600 total for all three iPhones

Agreed. Life is finally even better now that AT&T will support MMS by the 25th. If they would just support tethering, the iPhone would be a near perfect package.

And those are???

Do a quick google search for the specfics. If you have not upgraded to 3.1 yet then there are several programs available for jailbroken phones that will tether. There's also another technique of downloading a carrier profile file that somehow enables the builtin tether function, you can find it online, not sure if it works still on 3.01 or 3.1 firmware though.
