How many pre-meds out here own a ipod?

Best purchase of my life. I think it actually saved my GPA too as it made walking to and from class a little more interesting...also helped me focus while studying at times.

Proud owner of an iPod mini. Well worth the money!

I would guess nearly everyone. And some of our mothers as well.

i've had one for a while now...the very first click-wheel one. sad how it already feels outdated on the train in the morning when everyone has those whacked out nanos and video players and such.

My boyfriend got me an ipod shuffle for my birthday back in Feb. I love it!

No ipod for me...just a tiny, 512 MB Creative MuVo mp3 player. But yeah, if I lost it...I'd lose all motivation to jog ever again. I can't see how it's ever helped me in terms of being a pre-med though, besides acting as a portable harddrive for transferring files around. Can the Ipod be used for regular data storage as well?

Worth every penny. I never go to sleep without it, always take it with me to school. Always listen to it before tests to get me calm and hyped up. If you dont have one, I say, go out and buy one.

yeah, you can use the iPod as a drag and drop drive for any type of file. sadly, my iPod has a bigger hard disk than my old iMac

Very nice. My pre-exam piece is The Battle from the Gladiator soundtrack...

Nice, yeah that's definitely a huge plus. In fact, it's a great investment to make if youre someone like me who has to transfer huge amounts of raw video footage(ends up being like 150 Megabytes for 10 seconds of footage) from one computer to another. And of course, if ya wanna listen to moojik 😀.

I LOVE the Gladiator soundtrack!

I got my first 10 gb in aug 2002, then got a mini, now i've got a 4 gb black nano that is already scratched to hell. But I still love it and will continue to be a trend ***** as long as i can.

nanos are so last month...why don't you have the whole first season of Lost loaded onto a brand new iPod video yet!?

Patience my friend. Actually, I've got no desire to keep all my music with me at all times. I've got like 40 gigs of (legally procured, hahaha. yeah right.) music and I really don't listen to that much of it.

My company (genentech) bought every employee a nano.. i like it! Although they scratch real easy so I'm waiting for my protective case to arrive..

I have a 20G iPod that I purchased last April. Right before I left for vacation this past month it died. Apparently you have to send it in when the hard drive inside dies and they actually fix it, not just give you a new one. It's been 4 weeks and still no word on when I will get it back. I can't wait for it to die in another 6 months when I will be screwed out of my warranty. Best Buy (since there in no Apple store within 3 hrs of my town) sent it for free so I got to avoid that fee.

Also is would skip and freeze all the time, and right before it died, it mannaged to hook up to iTunes on my computer and delete everything that was on the iPod without being reset. This is just the end of a whole list of problems.

Personally I will never buy one again. I'll stick with a cheaper alternative that has just as long of a shelf life. Also this the the only Apple product I have ever purchased and I will never buy another one. Give me a PC over an apple any day.

I want one, too!!! lol. Alas, I will have to content myself with my walkman and hope that NPR has an interesting program or two. (Kansas radio stinks)... 👎

I'm sure they have a few good country stations!!!

If you are needing a radio at home, check out launch.yahoo.com

they have some great stations.. you dont even have to subscribe

Yeah, we have 4 country stations... and sadly, i have a favorite.

I'd love to have an iPOD, but alas, I just can't justify the cost.

I've learned to actually like some country music. I still think the stuff they play on the popular stations all sounds alike, but at least I can tolerate it now. We listen to 3 radio stations in my home: NPR, which is on about 12 hours a day , Classic Rock/60's,70's,80's station, and country music.

i record my (dj) sets onto my ipod so i love it. the only thing i don't like is it seems to run out of batteries quickly...

I'd rather get a PDA and just get a removeable card that you can put your songs onto it. I can't just spending so much on an ipod just to play music when you can spend about the same price for a decent PDA.

Creative Zen Touch 20GB, 24 hour battery life, slightly cheaper than the iPod, better sound quality. I love it.

I have a 4GB Mini.

(of course Apple releases the flash based Nano soon after my purchase)

jack johnson helps me to study 🙂

30G Ipod Photo.
I wish I'd have saved myself the cash and waited for the nano. Sure I have like 40G of music, but I mostly only listen to about 1/8 of that.

i have a 512 MB creative zen nano plus....it's great, fm player too so i can watch the tv's at the gym

i don't need extra space for something like the whole first season of Lost b/c that's defnitely etched in my mind forever

I bet I'm the only nerd considering the possibilities of downloadable lecture notes......

Seriously though, I know that many schools put their lectures online as sound files so you should be able to upload the lecture onto your iPOD and listen to it anywhere. Of course I use mine to listen to music most of the time, but hey, if you're short on time it would be an excellent way to catch up.

In a forum full of self-proclaimed nerds, I can't be the ONLY one who though about this!

Do any of you guys own a 40gb ipod?

Sometimes it freezes up on me and i gotta let it run outta battery, then charge it up again.

It's annoying as hell!

Does anyone own the IAudio JetAudio X5 or X5L? I was looking into getting one and the reviews on CNET are pretty good (user reviews especially). I'm anti-ipod as I think it relies more on name and doesn't deliver the best performance around. This player can play DivX on a 2 inch screen as has a 35 hour audio battery life while remaining negligibly larger than an ipod (best player Ive seen):

http://reviews.cnet.com/Cowon_iAudio_X5L__20GB_/4505-6490_7-31447908-2.html?tag=nav

Any feedback is appreciated. The regular X5 is smaller than an ipod and still has a really good audio batt. life (~18-20 hours)

I have a Dell DJ, 15GB. Doesn't sound like enough memory, but honestly I put in my entire collection and I only used about 6GBs; that's like 100 CDs worth already! I'm very satisfied with my Dell DJ, no frills, but affordable and reliable. I would have loved an iPod, but only if someone else paid. 😉 I previously owned a Creative Zen, which was a piece of crap, the hardrive malfunctioned after 1 year.

I recently treated myself to that new Ipod video. As if this whole process wasn't already doing serious damage to my bank account. Anyway, Podcasts? Lectures on the run...ah, nothing like being a pre-med.

check it out, nerd: iTunes podcasts for Stanford lectures. http://itunes.stanford.edu/
Hey, just because we're cool like that. Aww, Stanford... I d/l all of the Stanford Soundtrack albums and the Sapolsky lectures last night. Oh the memories...

Oh yes, I forgot to mention that my brand spankin' new 5G iPod with Video just arrived two nights ago... it's soooo cool, I love it! I watched the first episode of Lost on my ipod last night... the quality is awesome! The music sounds better too. Now that's some money I can justify spending... relatively speaking, it was either the new 30gb ipod video for $299 or spending double that on an east coast trip to a school I probably wouldn't attend anyway (let alone, know if I would be accepted). I guess it's money spent that has tangible returns 😉

Nice. And you know, just because a video/movie isnt on iTunes doesnt mean you cant get it on your iPod. I find that alot of iPod owners are people who necessarily arent very technical. Therefore, they are the ones actually paying to use iTunes and paying $2 for video on their iPod. Do a little research, (if you dont know how to already) and you will find that you can put any show/movie you want on your iPod.

i have a 4g 20gb ipod. fall out boy's "sugar we're going down" and "sophomore slump" get me pumped up for interviews.

At my Jefferson interview they said they post lecture audio online as mp3s. I wonder if that means you could download them to an iPod or other portable mp3 player? That would be cool. I wouldn't mind, in nice weather, hanging out in the park with my books and an mp3 player, ready to listen to lectures and/or study from notes/books. So many possibilities! Even seemingly little things, like listening to lectures while waiting for an appointment or something. Maybe that's just nerdy 😛 And Rjuza333, you aren't the only nerd, because I thought about this, too, when I heard about Jefferson's mp3s!

I'm already in the "know" so don't you worry. I'm quite techie saavy. 😀

Tigress, that's cool. Because I am applying there and there's a possibility you do (or do not) know, do you know if those mp3s are attached to a syndicated feed, like RSS or Atom a lá a podcast or blog? I mean, it would be cool if you only had to do the thinking once at the beginning of the block and your lectures were d/l'ed automagically to your computer. That said, even if it isn't syndicated, it wouldn't be hard to fudge it.
Sorry if this is over your head (or if I insulted you by insinuating it is), you may be a nerd but I get technical in my nerdy-ness.

Does that mean you've already filled it up with porn? 😉

I have a mini. the only thing I don't like about my iPod, is that it can be hard to fast forward sometimes.

Of course not 😉 I'm not that technologically advanced... yet.
