I have a question in regards to IPPE and summer internships. I will be starting my IPPE in mid-June up to the first week of July. I also applied at Walmart for two summer internships, one in Houston and the other San Antonio. My dilemma is, how do you work in the internship with the IPPE? I just got a call from Walmart-Houston to interview for the internship, but I am having a dilemma-should I mention the IPPE to the pharmacy manager? I am sure they are looking to fill the position ASAP. My IPPE is in San Antonio, I am hoping that Walmart in SA will call. Anyway, has anyone here have had to do an internship and an IPPE altogether and if so how did you work in your IPPE with your internship?

I dont see how the IPPE should concern them. I just finished my second year of pharmacy school and several people in my class worked while going through their IPPE. Bottom line, if I were you I would go ahead and take the Job because it really shouldnt concern them that you are beginning IPPE in the fall. I would assume that since every student is required to do IPPE they probably expect you to do it as well.

Depends what your IPPE schedule looks like. You could work your internship while doing IPPE on the weekends, if your school lets you. You could definitely not take time off IPPE to do work and vice versa.

My IPPE is this summer for three weeks (6/14-7/2). I am just concern if the preceptor would have a problem if I would not be able to work for three weeks during if I do get it. I suppose I could do the the intern hours over the weekend during IPPE. I just want to know if you all had to do IPPE during your internships.

Nope, our IPPE is pretty flexible, so we can schedule it around internships. You don't want to piss off your employer by not showing up to work for 3 weeks. Yes, your internship preceptor would have a problem.

How many hours is your IPPE? If only 40, then you can definitely pull it off during weekends (though it will be hard, since your preceptor may not be there weekends). If more, hopefully you can intern for a place during the school year. Sucks that your IPPE is so inflexible.

Well, I went to my internship interview, needless to say the preceptor's demeanor changed when I told her that I have IPPE for three weeks. I may not get it and it sucks cuz I need a job that I can continue to work in while in school. As of now, I have not had any luck getting into any retail pharmacies here in SA. I am frustrated bc money is getting pretty skimpy. I have called most of the Walgreens and CVS pharmacies out here. I have given up on HEB- the PIC's I have spoken to are idiots- they don't know TSBP laws in regards to pharmacy interns. They keep asking me if I am a registered tech!! Hello according to TSBP I can work as a tech with my intern license, I do not have to pay for an exam just to become a registered tech. My intern license supercedes tech license according to TSBP when I called them. What to do, what to do...

 I don't mean to laugh (I know your situation is serious, I wish you luck), but I had the same problem with a hospital I contacted. The HR person kept asking me when I would get my tech certification. I must have explained three times that my intern license superseded any tech licence. It was funny at first but got to be annoying that she just would not let it go. I think she didn't believe me. I ended up somewhere else, but I often wonder if she is still waiting for me to fax that tech licence they needed before they could interview me. :meanie: Anyway your statement brought all that back and had me laughing.
