Hello ..
This is my first time here , and i think finally i can find someone to answer me
I dont really know much about the matter i've been searching about the img in canada and specificly the iraqis
Didnt really found an answer
I am a student in medical college in iraq , i finished my third year and i hope when i graduate i can join a training program in canada as its the best place for a student to think about besides i have my aunt and uncle living there
Its been a while when i decided to start preparing for usmle as astart then there was the mccee then some people said you have no chance at all and there are only very few positions and its near impossible getting one and that iam wasting time and effort on some thing with no result !
For myself i dont really want to settle in canada .. I just want to study there do i need the residency ?
Do you think i may have a chance ?
And if yes whats your advise what is the path i should follow or what exams i should start preparing for ?
Sorry for the long post and maybe my informations are not quite accurate
But as i said i dont know much
And i search for guidence

Unfortunately you probably won't have a chance in Canada because you need citizenship or PR to even apply for residency. And even then becasue you didn't graduate in a Canadian medical school you will be placed at a huge disadvantage, only 10% of people who didn't graduate in a Canadian medical school find a residency in Canada.

Your English would also have to be amazing to apply. Don't bother with Canada its a dead end.

If you want to do your specialty training you need citizenship or PR. If you just want to do a Masters or PhD then you don't.

Check out CaRMS statistics if you want to look at raw numbers. This year, 47 out of 288 applicants from Middle Eastern countries matched. Unless you're a Canadian student graduating from Irish schools or Australian schools, chances of matching in Canada is a ridiculously tough task. Also, you can't apply for residency without having your Canadian permanent residency or citizenship. I'd take the USMLE and try for the states before i consider Canada.

Good luck!

Look iam really confused
I only finished 3 years in college i always wanted to be a surgeon
But you dont know what changes after practicing them in next 3 years in college
Too many things may change .. Iam not so sure about which specialty , its still early to decide
And iam saying that because if i want to study surgery i dont think phd would be beneficial to think about !!
Iam not even sure after i finish college should i think about speciality or master or phd or the phd would require master before

Do you think studying master is good idea ?
I read some comments in a facebook page saying you take master before other things as it prepare you for the next steps and increase your points

So if i want to study master what are the steps
And what should i do ?
If residency not needed then whats needed ?

And i am all into this because i always plan for what do
I dont like my future decisions to be blurred
I want to prepare my self for what i may need in several years time

And now in holiday i have so much spare time
I was thinking should i simply study my next year lectures and take a hint about them
Or should i prepare for some exam i may need after graduation to shorten the time it would take in future
Like usmle its a good idea to start preparing for it before graduation as step 1 is all about basics

But if it wouldnt have benfit then why the waste of time ? Should concentrate on something else
Thats why i want to point my goals so that i can start working on them

So what do you think i should think about ?
And whats the most proper pathway to choose ?

And There is matching in canada ? Isnt it only in US ?

You have to match into a residency spot to become ANY kind of medical doctor in Canada or US. In US, you can apply for residency without being a permanent resident/citizen. In Canada, you can't even apply for residency without being a Canadian permanent resident/citizen. In other words, if you don't have your PR or citizenship, you're automatically disqualified from applying to be a doctor in Canada. Therefore, it's a waste of time to pursue being a doctor in Canada unless you're Canadian.

For you, the best course of action would be to study hard for your USMLE, ace it, and apply to the states. However, chances of you landing a surgery residency is probably slim as an IMG. Family med/Psyc/Internal Med etc. might be attainable depending on your step 1 score. Check out NRMP data for more info on US match statistics.

Thats not true. There used to be an investor program but it was cancelled in 2011. Even then there was a big backlog.

If you want my advice I would just forget about Canada. You need very good English and i'm afraid your English at least on your posts isn't good enough. On top of that you need citizenship or PR and you need to be very competitive and probably spend many years of your life in Canada hoping for PR and applying. Its absolutely not worth it. If you are hard working and intelligent and your English is good consider the US. Canada is definitely not possible.
