i work 8-5s saturday and sunday. we've been told to bring a change of clothes and expect that roads may be impassable come saturday night, meaning we'd have to sleep in the hospital and just stay there in between shifts.. which to me sounds awful.

we have, however, been notified that if the governor declare a level 3 driving ban, we are excused from reporting to work. no clue what the poor saps already on the job at the time would end up doing.

I'm on the north end of Long Island. 2 hospitals on the south shore are in the process of closing up their doors and transferring pt's to other hospitals that are further from the atlantic and on the sound. Their ERs are closing on Sunday when the storm's supposed to hit us.

I'm not on schedule at all, and am actually supposed to be out of town this weekend (going away in the morning with the wife), though just got an e-mail saying all EM residents should have thier phones ready in case they need extra people. They were vague when I asked if ppl with out of town plans are required to stay on long island. A clear cut answer would've been nice. I'm just expecting a lot of flooding, honestly, with relatively little ER traffic, even with 2 extra EDs closed.

I was in Virginia Beach (not that anyone talks much about it in the news). My (now former) hospital is having people bring a change of clothes and water for 3 days, along with whatever other supplies they might need. Everyone is expected to be available or close by if needed. I kind of miss them and wish I could help out. 🙁

On another note, will the surfing be any good tomorrow, or do I need to go today before the storm hits? And where in NY/NJ?
