how come in iron deficiency anemia, there is a normal/high RBC count combined with a low reticulocyte count ?
the combination of the two doesn't make sense since RBCs actually develop from reticulocytes !

SORRY FOR THE MISLEADING INFO

TURNS OUT THAT RBC COUNT CAN ACTUALLY BE HIGH IN IRON DEFICIENCY ANEMIA BUT ONLY IN CHILDREN !!

SORRY AGAIN.

Maybe due to the fact that the BM can't compensate enough for the the lack of iron

So there is a lower number of immature RBCs being produced resulting in the lower retic count

The RPI would probably be < 2.0

This would only be temporary compared to chronic IDA

I think initially probably nothing abnormal besides the lower retic counts would be found due to the fact that RBCs live 120 days

btw how come im learning the same thing in my CLS major as med school students? odd.

which one isn't ?

i'm sure both are true 😎

i don't understand where you got the information that there will be a high RBC count. Initially, there will be a normal RBC count, but later on as erythropoiesis occurs there is insufficient iron to make enough RBC's, and they will also be smaller to maintain Hb concentration.

Haha medical students don't learn some weird information that nobody else can learn. It's more the amount of information not the particular difficulty of it.
