hi i recently got into the albany college of pharmacy 0+6 program.. but the tution is around 33k per year ... while the other 2 schools i applied to LIU and buffalo(2+4), require around 18-20k... im currently a senior in high school right now...any advice on which school to attend or if the extra 10k for albany is really worth it? thx in advance.

just wondering

you're saying you're a high school senior and you got into a pharmacy school in Albany? WTF?

0+6 program means you do two years of undergrad work and then you are guaranteed a spot in their pharm school if you meet certain requirements. There are a few schools who do this.

To the OP, one aspect you really need to consider is if you are sure you want to do pharmacy. A lot of people change their minds multiple times during college about what career they want. Also think about things like distance from home, friends, atmosphere, etc. It's not worth going to a guarantee school if you won't be happy, and cost can figure into that.

I think buffalo pharm also has an early assurance program for their undergrads, so look into that because it will give you an advantage over other competition. I was really impressed with UB when I interviewed there.

I know making a decision about what college to attend is really difficult. Sometimes you get a gut feeling about a school. Sometimes you have to use logic about what school would be more practical for you to attend.

Buffalo is a tough school because they require a lot of courses. I have a friend who started there as a Freshman, now is a 2nd year, and might not make it into the 3rd year even with a 3.4.

LIU, read my posts about this school. Besides, for the money you pay this school, you don't get much back. LIU is known for a good Professional Pharmacy program, Pre-Pharmacy is not as great.

If you're guaranteed a spot in Albany, I would take it.

Remember, if you're gonna go to Buffalo or LIU, you will have to take the PCAT, apply by PharmCAS and spend money on the interviews, applications, and highly likely summer classes unless you are a genius.

This is the end of my junior year at LIU. I have taken summer classes in both sessions every year. This is the first time I will be taking only 1 summer class.

Thank you for the feedback. I've done some research and I know for a fact that buffalo is difficult to get into third year (Even as an early assurance applicant) However it does offer a great program..though I'm afraid i'll end up transferring out due to my gpa/pcat and their requirements. Live 8hours away ~

Albany..ehh from what i've heard..the attrition rate is high for 1st 2nd year students?...but being granted a guaranteed spot..I guess the 33k is somewhat reasonable …and closer 4hours..

LIU is closest .. 20 min drive I think…I visited the campus..small but I can adapt to any environment..as long as its clean. LIU from what I know..accepts a small amount of transfers..while most of its current students make it into third year..
Ehhh I hate stressing over a college >_<

Don't make a decision about LIU until the new admissions cycle starts, find out the stats about how many Pre-Pharms got in.

Last year, all you needed was to complete your pre-reqs and have a 3.0 Overall/Math Science. I had a 3.2, but I didn't finish Organic.

For Organic, the best thing is to take it during the Summer of your 1st year.
