Is 1 year of foreign language class necessary?

Hello. I am a college freshman. I am planning future classes.

I am wondering if it is necessary to have Spanish 1 and Spanish 2? Or is it alright to take Spanish 1 and another cultural class such as a religious studies class?

I hope to go to UC San Francisco or Oregon State University and their prerequisites don't say much about foreign languages. I have taken Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 in high school.
