Is 2 months enough time…

…to study for the MCAT? Here’s the story. I planned on taking the MCATs in April but due to financial reasons I couldn’t afford the class, and I’m the type of person who needs a classroom setting to give me that extra push. So I’m taking the Kaplan course from next week until about the second week of May. I plan on taking the MCAT on May 23rd, because I want to apply as early as possible. I have a full course load, plus shadowing. I am also cutting my hours at work just to have some more time. So is two months really enough time for the MCAT? If so how many hours a week do I need to study. Any input would be great.

Thanks

2 Months is enought time. I don't recomend taking a class. Study by yourself and study a lot. I studied very very very very hard for one month and got a 34M. If I had another month I would have practiced the writing.

The class is a complete waste of time since all it does is review the same information in the book.
Judging from your post, your full course load, your job, etc. I do not think 2 months will be enough time. 2 months of pretty intense studying is usually enough, but you also have to juggle your work and school, so the actual amount of studying is going to vary.

Maybe. Take a diagnostic and see where you stand and how far you are from where you want to be.
I think the MCAT is the most important part of your app so don't rush it. If you're not ready to take it in 2 months DON'T. Taking a year off and doing amazing on the MCAT is better than doing ok and going to a school you don't really want to go to because it was the only place that accepted you.

doable but not ideal. Not sure about logistics but you may be able to take it in june and still get your app in early since you can turn in AMCAS without your MCAT score, maybe someone whose been through the process can shed some light.

Its doable if you have enough time to do a heavy, fast, content review. Then follow it up with a few practice tests.

Read thoroughly, take very thorough notes, and then start taking practice exams. I've got about 5-6 weeks in content review, and just took my first practice test today (AAMC 3 CBT). I'm happy to say I got a 31 (12/9/10) and I'm sure I could bring it up a little in a couple weeks, and I'm pretty sure I probably could have prepped faster if I absolutely HAD to. 🙂

One caveaut: if you're not a) a very fast learner, or b) really familiar with all of the content, 2 months isn't sufficient.

As the posters above indicated, it all depends on your current standing. Diagnose your current standing with an AAMC practice exam (I know you have to do Kaplan's too, but the VR is too easy thus the curve is extremely sharp). Without those scores all we can do is speculate.
